Smooth dyno session today.....

4.10" bore non Siamese R3
4.125" Stroke offset ground K1 crank
6" CompStar 2.0" rods
Custom Diamonds -28CC dish, 11.1:1 compression
Moroso 8 Qt pan
SDSS Solid roller 272/276 @ .050" .729"/.729" 108 LSA+4
1.65:1 Jesels
Arrington heads, 2.15"/1.60" Ferrea's, ISKY 9985 tool rooms, Comp tool steel retainers. Flow ~360/260 @ .700"
Manton 3/8" .145" wall P rods
Arrington single 4 cast manifold converted to 4500 flange
Ran Quickfuel 1050 & a Pro Systems 1050 both virtually identical power.
Liked 33 degrees of timing (heads angle milled to 13 degree at some point in previous life)

Built as a pump gas street motor so no compression or wild cam. Motor turns over with 36.9 ft lbs of TQ ready to run with plugs in it, lashed etc.... Made real good TQ helped by smallish intake. I did'nt go wild on it to keep costs down. I was surprised by how good the TQ was, we pulled it down to 4100 late in day & it was making 540 @ 4100.... Made best of 610 TQ.

We ran it with my 1 7/8" into 2" Dyno headers with 3.5" collectors, & then put on a set of Box stock TTI W2 1 7/8" Headers with 3" collectors to see power difference.... here are the results. First #'s were with the stepped big tubes...

Ryan,

Thanks for posting this...it goes to illustrating my point made on the header thread how a too small collector will (for want of a better word) "FORCE" the motor's torque to Peak at too low an RPM which acts like a cork onthe rest of the higher RPM Horsepower curve. Looks like the 3" collector peaked at 5300 where the 3 1/2 peaked up around 5900....look how much power that is.....I know the bigger ones are stepped but I'll bet 80% of the power gain was from the larger collector letting the motor keep "feeding".

Thanks Ryan I always look forward to reading your dyno posts. I really like how you don't try to hide anything about the motors.

So- a hypothetical question... what other head(s)would give the same results on that same shortblock without being totally obscure or WAAAYY overpriced(porting price being factored in)?- and still maintaining the streetable factor. What would be your first choice? Indy 245, w9, w7?

Thanks for posting all these dyno results- they are appreciated

You pretty much listed them, I'd say Indy 245 on a 59° block, and w9 on a 48° block.

Hard to say without knowing the primary lengths, I'd think the primary's dictate the RPM more then the collector size... But if they're close to the same, then you're definately right.

Put it in the car yesterday (with much help from mrsmallblock for running a 727 neutral bal 6 bolt SFI Flex plate up to Port Royal for us, THANKS Howard) Neede to get motor in yesterday so can get driveshaft made this week & order the radiator, & start plumbing fuel system & wiring etc.

Sorry for the poor pic quality I just realized this AM my camera accidentally was set on Blur Reduction last night when I took these. I'll get some better ones next weekend when we work on it again. Hopefully should be done here in month or two.

It's a '72 Challenger, the guy doing all the body/paint/fab work is the guy who is going to do my SuperBee body/paint as soon as this one is done.

Started out as a very rusted out shell out of Georgia... all new floorpans, 1/4's, much of firewall rebuilt new inner fenders, fixed several holes in roof....

Back halfed it, ladder bars, QA1's, Mini tubs, cage etc. Ron Francis wiring, 8" ATI verter, custom 727 by Scotts Transmission in Lebanon, PA. 14.5" Quick time Pro's on Holeshot Penatstars, AlterKtion...

I think I have him talked into doing a WS fiberglass oversize 6 pack lift off hood blacked out. Gonna have Black '71 Challenger RT stripes when done, it just got out of paint booth a few weeks ago. Going to run Friday night Street racing deal at Beaver Springs this year with it, wants to run in the quick 8 deal.

Anyhow, here's couple bad pics.....

It's actually some type of PPG bright red. He called it "really red" I don't know if that's the real name or not, but it's a bright vibrant red. (My favorite is Orange LOL)

I gave Buck (the painter) some of my flake yesterday for him to test shoot, he has'nt shot flake in years. Just wants to make sure he can get it to lay down good.

Yes this was guy who got your Headers but they did'nt work out, these are newer style Arrington heads, I actually ended up having to get a set of W2 TTI's & change bolt pattern on heads to that. (someone had changed it from W2 to W7 pattern.... what a mess, so I had to close off W7 pattern & redrill W2....)

First of all, very nice numbers! No need for big blocks anymore

I was wondering over the oil adapter, it looks really good using that AN -12 in the front of the engine,
I'm thinking of doing something similar on my engine.
Is that CV Products adapter? Do you have the part #'s for what is needed? What do you use where the
oil filter was originally placed?

Thanks, and sorry for hijacking the thread

Great numbers on those dyno runs. That is one nice car getting put together there.
