In buying a camshaft I have came across on Comp Cams site that the '67 & down use a different lifter. Other brands don't mention anything about the lifter difference. Anyone know the story with that? I have read it's possibly something with the tip of the pushrod. I am running stock pushrods.

If you're going to run the original 1965 pushrods, you'll see that the lifter end is tapered down and fits snugly into the pushrod seat of the lifter. That style of pushrod should be paired with the. 67 and earlier lifters. If you want to use the more common 68 and later style, you'll want to replace the pushrods with 1968 and later versions.

Are the 65 pushrods weaker? They are in good condition.

Not that I'm aware of, you just need to use the correct lifters.
Do your pushrods have one end that is noticeably smaller than the other end?

Then you should be good if you use the early style lifters.

I believe the early pushrods were a different length also The early pushrods are shown as .060 longer. I think the early lifters have the pushrods sitting deeper in the cup, so they needed to be longer.

Correct as the early rods are longer. You cant use them with new lifters. All cam makers listed 68 up lifters before dont know if they still do.Summit has nice push rods for stock valve setups with new style lifters.Used them when we did the 62 413 and the 67 Chrysler and the other early BBs I did.Rocky

Smaller radius on the pushrod end "ball" pre 67 1967 and older. 1968 first year with both ends the same.

I'm pretty sure Chrysler went from 5/16" pushrod ends to 3/8" in 1968. Nope, '68 and later are 5/16" both ends, the '67 and earlier are 5/16" top and 1/4" bottom.
