What method do you prefer to knock out the old studs then install them with the axles still in the car? The local service station has a bearing looking stud installation tool I can use. I have only ever just pulled them in with a lug nut, and knocked them out with a hammer, but that was just daily driver cars and I would like these to be installed more correctly. Thanks! Greg

I do them all the time with the stud installer and they seat just fine every time. I just put a little red Lock-tite on the splines for lube and extra insurance after it when they are seated.

I have used the BFH and lug nut method with the DD, too. I used it on the first racer I built 30+ years ago, but recently I inherited a bearing press and I am building the accessories needed to press wheel bearings on & off and install standard and long wheel studs. So now I won't have to be concerned about damaging axle flanges.

I put a deep well socket large enough to fit around the O.D. of the old stud and then put the socket on a hard surface with the axle and old stud sitting on top of it and use a old lug nut screwed onto the top of the old stud and then drive it into the socket with a brass drift or what ever BFH you want to use up

We knock them out with a heavy brass hammer and install them with a heavy thick steel sleeve a thick hardened washer and nut.Use a impact gun for quick results.

upWe have done more than we can count this way and always have had great results. Some of the real long studs require removing the axles, but we still do them the same on the bench. bow

i still like to pull the axles and back up the axle flange when removing or installing press in studs. doesn't matter if i use a BFH or a press. i guess i am paranoid about bent flanges.

Drawing them in with a spacer, washer and nut eliminates bending the flanges.Pressed studs are easly removed with a brass hammer with no chance of damaging the flange. up
