I have a friend who does not own a computer let alone the internet, and he is wanting to know....How many 1973 Charger Rallye's with a 340, 4 speed, Black on Black were made?

Does anyone have the break down of the production numbers?

He also has a factory 1973 Rallye Charger with a 440, A/T, and I'm sure would like to know about that also.

Any help is appreciated!!

I know of only one of those cars and it is in my wife's garage at this moment.

This one does not belong to me, I am storing it for a friend. It is optioned with the 400 Magnum, 727 Console Shift, P/S, A/C, Silver paint, Black Vinyl Roof, 15" Rally Wheels, etc. It is a show winner and as stock as a survivor can be. As soon as he can arrange transportation it will be going to Anchorage, AK. I have been keeping it since November and if it is still here in August, I will enter it in the Mopars Unlimited Tacoma Chapter "SunBust". I really expect he will reclaim it before then.

I have been gathering information on 1973 Charger Rallye 340CID 4 speed MT since 1999. I know of 29 still around counting mine. I see Two Black ones in my folder. Both have the Red reflective stripe. One car is still owned by original owner in MN. Other one is in NY.
BTW while Galen's booklet states that 396 were built with 340CID 4 speed MT, rumor has it that only 40 were built with that engine and transmission combination. Two other individuals heard the same thing but I unfortunately am not finding the source of that data. Anyone know?

I have the motor out of one that was scraped years ago. It was the pale green color. I tried to buy the whole car, but was too late.

Thanks Gabmando! My friends is black with the black stripe. Yes, that's the number that keeps popping up, 40. I'm finding out that it is not a common car.

While Galen isn't omniscient, I would think something unsubstantiated would not be as good as the White Book.

iagree the "40" number is probably someone's 10% "survival rate" estimate number (40+ years later) NOT "production"

I know our 73 rallye 400 4 speed is one of 396. Don't know 340's though. It's b5 blue inside and out. Black rallye stripes, all numbers match, no fender tag, but have the build sheet. Should be finished this year, drivetrain going back in this week.

Galen's book states 396 340CID MT were built. It also states that 396 400CID MT were built. I find that strange. Could 396 be the total of 4 speeds I wonder. I just would like to find out to satisfy my curiousity.

I would think a 340 4-speed wouldn't be as limited as a 40 model run. '70's gas crunch so smaller engines were more popular and I'd think the 4-speed was there to keep the muscle car feel. I have s '74 Charger Rallye that was factory with a 318-2bbl. And a pistol grip 4-speed! Guessing it's pretty uncommon in itself.
