My Crane HI6 is telling me it's not running because it's lost its trigger signal. How do you test a stock style (read Summit special) distributor trigger signal?.

Use an ohm meter to check the pick up. I just checked a known working one. It reads .320 ohms on the 20K scale. This reading is with the dist un plugged, engine at a stand still.
If you get infinite resistance(no reading) or no resistance (shorted) it's bad.

yeah, just check resistance across the plug for the pickup coil.
something like 300-600 ohms is the spec.

if the airgap is too large it won't signal either.
that spec is around .008-.015
