I want to do a 360 in my '82 Fury but I'm not convinced the stock 904 can handle it. Is there a beefed-up torque converter available for the 904 that will handle the additional torque and has the balance weight? If not what vehicle do I spec to find a 727 w/ lockup? This is my daily driver

Is it a stock 360 with no performance enhancements?

Don't know why it wouldn't. I'm about to put just short of 500HP to my built 904. Have a converter built by a reputable company. I had PTC build mine, and you can specify having the weights welded on.

I don't know if beef up is the right term for a converter, but at the least I would call a good converter company and have them build you something that works best for your combo

I know that the stock 904 converters like to break the torque converter snout off in high torque applications... wondering if there is a company that does stronger than stock TQ snouts

904 performance converters come with chromemoly hubs...and you can buy harden pump gears if that helps ya sleep at night...

Are you trying to keep this conversion low cost?

Well, there is always the option for 904's that I've been posting on here for about 10 years now - using the A500 pump gears and order your converter with that style pump drive - they have flats instead of the crack prone slots.

So I would just order an A500 front pump assembly and then the A500 lockup torque converter? and throw that in the 904?

No, you just put A500 pump gears into the 904 front pump, and order your 904 converter with the A500 pump drive. Been doing it for years.

If it were me, since the engine is out and the front pump of the tranny is coming out too, I would go ahead and rebuild the trans or at least new clutches. I think my complete performance rebuild kit was around $200, maybe less. Would have been less for standard rebuild kit
