Do those felt pad things work on the battery
post to keep the corrosion down/away.. I've
never tried them so I'm asking.. I have corrosion
on the positive post... or is there something that
works
Thanks

Pick up a can of fluid film. Best corrosion protection around. I use it on batteries, inside door skins anywhere u don't want rust.

Interested in the fluid film too. RE: the felt pads, I've had good results with them in keeping the corrosion at bay in my vehicles.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

Where I have used them they seem to slow down the formation of crud. They help but not a complete fix. I also coat the outside of the terminal after install with a thin coat of white lithium grease. That helps a little also.

All that fun is caused by leakage of sulphuric fumes around the battery post. The only battery I have that is completely immune is the Redtop I run in the trunk of the Challenger. I have had two and always perfectly clean.

As stated, the felt pads help, but aren't a forever cure. I've found that pulling the ground cable off seems to help, but on a modern car that means resetting things when re-connecting.

A combo of the felt pads and some kind of protective spray is the best. Quick Cable makes good products for this.

My solution is to never run a standard wet battery. I switch everything I own over to AGM batteries and the cables all look brand new still. The wifes new car is getting one soon before any kind of corrosion can start. Plus dodge put the battery in a stupid place so I would never see the corrosion until it was too late.

I use any kind of petroleum based grease and the pads to prevent the fumes from getting on the cable ends or anywhere else thumbs

I have to go to the parts store tomorrow so
I'm gonna get those felts and see if they have
that fluid film.. plus a few more big wire
terminals to finish up the inverter install

the pads plus a very light coat of something on the terminal ends. i say "something" because i have used different things over the years such as wd-40, maroon colored battery spray stuff, lithium grease, di-electric grease, etc. all seem to work good.

I'm gonna try the felts and if I can find it,
the fluid film or just the felts.. I'll grease
the bottom side of them to try and block the gasses
EDIT
A buddy stopped by so I had he hold the inner nut
part of the connectors while I tried to turn in the
other part.. didnt work.. I have to cut back the
insulation and the cardboard on the back of the carpet
panel to get it started.. a bit more work to finish up
Thanks guys

Believe it or not I've had a fair amount of success applying silicone RTV around the post and battery case to seal it from escaping gasses that cause corrosion. Once the cable is connected it's undetectable.

That Fluid Film is nice stuff. That being said I don't want gooey greasy battery terminals if I can help it.

Have ued the fluid film myself with pretty good results, but you still will get the corrosion in time. Never tried the felts or the silicone. Or maybe all three together. work

I finished up another small job.. I wanted to
install a power inverter so I could power my puter
while driving.. mainly for DW but around here also
while its learning... the inverter tucks in nice
between the back wall of the cab and the main roll
bar so its out of the way... then I used the plugs
that Doug(DVW) gave me so I can unplug it easy for
removal.. its a nice clean set up
