Hello,
My name is Devin McCree, I'm 18 years of age and I have been racing for 10 years. After competing in 8 full seasons; I finished as runner up in 3 seasons, and as the champion in 2. I had to sit out last season due to a lack of funds. Currently, I'm attending Ventura College full time and I have acquired enough parts to assemble a sprint car roller which I'm building and will begin racing mid-season in the USAC West Coast 360 series and the VRA Sprint Car series.
I'm looking for sponsorship opportunities or assistance involving no cash, just parts for a small block Mopar or a large discount towards the purchase of such.
I am aware that it is strange to be inquiring for a sponsorship that will become active half way through the season; in reality though the sponsorship I'm looking for is going to begin in the 2017 season with an additional 6 months of representation and advertisement prior.
I know there are Mopar guys out there who would love to see a small block of their own out running against a field full of Chevys, help me make this happen. I'm starting with a 318 block out of a 68 Barracuda and I also have a forged crank out of a 273. I've received a lot of criticism regarding how these parts won't hold up to the rigors of dirt track racing; I'd be happy to replace the block with an R3 if someone has one they aren't using, same with the crank. But as of right now that's all I have and that's all I can afford. If you decide you want to help or know someone who might; please let me know, you're contribution won't go unnoticed.

Thanks,
Devin McCree
Ventura, CA

I can offer a lot more than just signing the hood, I intend to effectively promote your business. I won't give the whole speech until someone wants to hear it. Yeah, I have been.

Just my 2 cents but you could try working for free when time permits at any speed shop/engine shop you might be amazed at what junk they may have lying around. You never know might be an old r3 block just gathering get dust?If you don't ask you don't get.Best of luck.

I have been actually, but nowhere that has any R3 blocks. And thanks, I appreciate it.

Here's what I know about racing.... at a grass roots level consider it a hobby, and only do hobbies when you can afford them. I race when I can afford it. How many tickets are sold per race in what you do? How many of those are new faces? Probably slim. Just being realistic here

I did it the hard way by working 60-80 hours a week so I could race but we didn't get trophies for everything just for showing up either. But what do I know.

Help comes in two forms........those that just WANT to help, be involved and see you do well, but expect nothing in return. Those are HARD to find.

The other help comes from those that YOU can help. In other words, how does their involvement with your team help THEM. You have to convince and show them that being involved with your team, is going to benefit their business. And you generally have to prove beforehand that this will happen. Nobody is going to give you free stuff on a whim. You have to approach it right and have a professional looking proposal, with facts, goals and realistic expectations.

I get proposals on a daily basis, with guys telling me that Holley should help them, because they are so and so, have won this many races, etc. They never mention what they can do for us, only that we SHOULD help them. Those go straight in the trash.

Yeah, well thankfully I don't have to worry about much else at this point in time. Racing is my motivation for everything I do. I've been out of racing for a while and I noticed I was starting to not care about school as I had before. Racing isn't my hobby, it's my sport. There's no grassroots sprint cars around here, and even the grassroots sprint cars are not very far from the professional ones. I don't care about the trophies, I car about the memories, the fun, the hard times, the learning, the growing, etc.

Well you better start thinking about school
much harder... do you really think you will
be a pro driver without it... racing is all
about the math.. you better learn it

Didn't I mention I'm in college? I'm doing just fine with school, I teach myself more than I learn in the classroom by reading articles online from credible sources.

that is all fine and good you are still in school, but the articles you read and learn from assume you know and understand the math/physics/etc involved in what ever it is you are reading about. mr. p is 100% spot on with his statement: learn all the math you can in school. if you don't, or just puff it off because you find it not progressing as fast as you think it should [or, heaven forbid, you find it BORING] i guarantee you later in life you will be kicking yourself for not taking the time or effort to learn it when you had the opportunity. i will never forgive my "guidance counselor" in school that denied me the chance to take calculus and trigonometry in high school because i couldn't afford to go to college. some years after i graduated high school, i got a job that afforded me the opportunity to become a machinist. that was back in time that didn't require any qualifications for that position, just a desire to learn. i knew i liked math, but my skills were very lacking. luckily, i had an "old guy" take me under his wing, and with coaching and "self taught" mistakes [i mean learning at the school of hard knocks], my career lasted 42 years. it sure would have been nice to have some advanced math classes before i started. along the way, i took classes that i needed to help me out, but now i realize the older i get, the dumber i realize i truly am. at one time, i knew more than i really did. think about that for a moment. i'm not trying to slam you in any way, but you are there now. absorb knowledge from all sources and search for the true meaning, but don't dismiss formal class room time from internet time. you may be learning bad habits and short cuts that will hurt you later on. class room time teaches you lots of things, not the least of all is patience and the ability to apply logic to a problem to help correct or solve it using multiple means. the older i get, i come to realize my "old man" wasn't as stupid as i thought.........
