Diapers are great, IF they fit and you have room. The OP has already stated that his headers basically hit the block. You might get a diaper between that, but eventually it IS going to burn it up. Also, unless the whole thing is a ballistic blanket, it's not likely to contain a violent let go anyway. If your headers hit now, a ballistic sure isn't gonna fit.
I never said a pan would be easy, but it CAN be done. The bottom of the pan can be right against the oil pan, so will be no lower, other than the thickness of pan and a piece of pig mat. Plus they are easy to remove. Ours comes off with 6 dzus fasteners

Never used them but have heard a lot of good things about Russler. I guess I might as well add that to my list of things to buy, too. I wonder how many other local tracks are going to institute this. Rockingham, Jefferson Pageland, Moorseville, ZMax?

If you go with a home built pan, be sure and figure out a way to make it easy to inspect for oil or water in the pan, and do it often! I built one that was very close to the frame, couldn't check it easily, and had a serious incident as a result. A fast repair in the pits, put the whole deal back together, got back in line to make a run, and five feet off the line the car went hard left to the wall, so close I swear I could see the grain in the concrete wall. There was a slow water leak, and it splashed out of the pan on launch. Yes, I did have hasmat in there.

Right now my local track is encouraging everyone faster than 10.99 1/4 and 6.99 1/8 to get an engine diaper or belly pan. In the near future, it will be mandatory.
Anyone have some input on this? Thanks! Does this mean a Hellcat Charger/ Challenger with Drag Radials will have to have a diaper too?
PSO headed 632 from MM. Cracked cylinder, loose valve seats, low oil pressure, low cylinder pressure. ..... Now its a door stop....

How do the belly pans work? Is there a certain height that the sides of the pan has to be? Is it supposed to be a full surround? I'm asking because my new frame might lend itself to a removable pan. Might be easier than a diaper.

So when does IHRA or NHRA actually require a diaper? NHRA requires a diaper in Supergas and Supercomp So a diaper isn't required for 9.99 or faster? Just certain classes? That's all I could find when I looked through the rulebook, just wanted to be sure I didn't miss anything.

.99 and quicker and you must have a diaper to race on their track. You are correct HOWEVER there are many tracks that have already placed the rule into effect. 9.99 and quicker and you MUST have a diaper to race on their track.

Right...which is exactly what I'm dealing w/ here. Only my track is saying for 10.99 and quicker you need either a diaper or belly pan, which I think is ridiculous. A 10 sec car shouldn't be required to have one IMO.

A motor coming apart in a race car is not really relevant to ET anyway. I see more thrown together, slower junkers scatter motors than nicer faster cars anyway. It's mostly about cleanup. Many local tracks are far from having National Event track prep equipment, much less the manpower. I have seen a major oildown cancel a night of racing more than once

I have to get a diaper as well. I am using this guy http://www.russlerii.com/Home_Page.htmlNHRA approved and he seems like he really knows his stuff. He has called me three times to double check measurements so he gets it right. That don't happen much any more that a company takes workmanship that seriously. My tie rod passes through the oil pan, so he is custom building it. Decent price as well. I should have mine in about a week he says. I bought one of his and cheaply made. Material is nothing more than a light canvas. The wrap straps are made of thin nylon and catches are plastic. Those two items are identical in very way to he belly bag joggers wear.
