These have to be my favourite photos of any engine. Seeing the Pushrod/Valve train alignment can tell a lot about a motor.

All the engine are 650ci and have been run in our truck over the years. These would be the last 4 engines we have ran in Diablo. Each one trying to catch up and compete with the GM and Ford boys in the club.

Crazy to see the evolution of the engines and how technology changes.

First engine was build with a old set of 4.840 B1-TS (originally a set Denis Radford had). KB block 11.225 deck, Stock size cam and lifter location, .903 Tie Rod lifters with .210 offset, Jessel rockers.

Crazy how the angles are! After each run we would cross our fingers taking the valve covers off. Wouldn't let her turn past 7500 rpm either. We found out quickly this was NOT a set up that would last in the pulling word of 15-20 seconds of running wide open. The next TS engine we bought and then upgraded had many new additions to keep it living.

This one would be a newer set of 4.840 b1-TS heads. Oval ports, direct port alchy injection. This block was sent to LSM to have the lifters holes spread out and then custom 60mm Cam cores were made to line up with the block. we uses .937 lifters, Since things were moved over we could put proper sized pushrods. Also T&D rockers with helped even more with the alignment.

This was a very reliable set up we ran for 3 years. Another pulling family has it now and she is still running strong.

Here is our first 5" Hemi Built by Goodwin. This was on a Cast Donavan Block with Cast 99 heads, .937 Jessel Lifters, 60mm cam, 5 cam bearing block. Pretty darn straight angles. Since we have a much larger bore we don;t need that giant tall deck or huge stroke.

Had no problems or trust issues running this engine to 8900.

and finally our Goodwin Billet engine. Billet 5" BS Block, Billet Goodwin Heads, 1.062 Cam FX lifters. 70mm 9 bearing cam.

We run her up to 9300, and they have been tested on spintrons past 10000.

It's crazy the rockers look like they are going to touch on the first TS engine.

Thanks for sharing these, is the latest Goodwin also 5" bore spacing or bigger?

It's crazy a pulling truck has way better stuff than 99% of the drag racers here. That's dedication.

Yes it is dedication, but a puller cant pick a dial in either, its more on the order of run what you brung, fastest is the winner, and its evident that " MR Diablo" is being as competitive as he can be, my hats off to him for his dedication.

The motors are awesome. The video's are great. First time I've ever seen a pull from the drivers seat. Thanks for that!

Always wondered what kind of revs those things went to. Sounds sweet. We like to have a few beers and root for "our kind" at the local pulls in Arcola.

We are pretty much the only Dodge around where ever we go. I can think of two other great Dodge Puller families that are in the Tri-State Area but other then that its pretty scarce in the Mod class. This year we are hoping to make our way to the 50 anniversary for Bowling Green's NTPA grand National Pull. We have the motor to compete but there is soooo much more that can be done to the chassis. I've calculated that I could easily spend 10k just lightening the front and rear differentials. 10k for maybe 100 pounds of saved weight, (you would take that weight and move it to the front of the truck) Stupid money for so little but all the Top truck have done this!

If guys have sponsors then it's a no brainer with the endless mods but if one has to pay with their own cash then there has to be some point at which one says enough. I wouldn't even want to guess how many wheelbarrows full of cash you have gone through just in engines alone. I certainly see a lot of dedication to the sport there.

You have some nice stuff Diablo and thanks for posting, It's easy to see why the Goodwin stuff is worth the investment. If I may continue the segway I am curious it appears that (AL's) stuff is based on a wedge block Predator??? I'm guessing the Hemi-based Predator configuration helps to straighten the pushrod angle??? Thanks.
