Hello!

I have put togehter a 70 Challenger with a stock Rallye hood, a 440 engine with a Performer RPM intake and a 750 Holley 4150 carb.....

....and Im having a really hard time trying to find an air cleaner that will fit. I have already ordered 3 air cleaners so far, and non fit....some do allow the hood to close but the air cleaners are rubbing on the hoods brace and there is no room left for any engine movement.

What are cleaner WILL fit with some room to spare??? Does anybody have a part number???

Thanks!!!

Domingo

on my wifes i run a drop base air cleaner, that i had to dent in on the dvr side to clear the factory trans linkage. and i run a 2" air cleaner, i had to grind the "wings" off of the air cleaner wingnut down to basically flush with the top of the nut area, i am running a 1/2" carb spacer as well. its a damn tight fit-72 chally, rally hood, 440, 440 source heads, eddy perf rpm, 850 holly dp carb, and the 1/2" carb spacer.

on the air cleaner assembly you cound also use the air cleaner style top, instead of being domed up like the steel lid they will tighten down to where they are flat across the top instead of being domed up. k&n makes them, they are air cleaner material instead of the traditional chrome metal dome

thanks for the repliues. yes Im guessing I will have to figure something out somehow----I tried to go by the overall height dimensions listed on the product description on summit only to find they were not as advertised- Im close to having it work after some massaging and parts swapping.

I have the same exact set up...
I used a drop air cleaner from Napa (Chrome top) and just enough thread protruding to get a wing nut on.
I will get a number off the box when I return home (day or two).

I don't mean to jump on an e body post, but I had a dog of a time finding something that would fit my 70 coronet. Same basic setup. 440, RPM and Holley. I did the same thing. Bought some different drop air cleaners and different filters with zero luck. I ended up milling off the choke horn and purchasing a spectra sheet metal plenum. Works perfect. It ain't the cheap route, but got it on sale at Jegs for $235. Air flow won't be an issue. Rated for over 1000 CFM.

I’m listening.
