I just acquired a 1966 D700 ramp truck and would like to change-out the Dayton style wheels for Budd's, is there a way to do it without changing out the axles? I have seen this done on the Snake and Mongoose haulers, but don't know how they accomplished it. shruggy

No real help for you, but curious why you want to change out the dayton wheels? We still see some older units with the dayton's come through our shop and they're still doing fine on OTR units racking up the mileage. Most larger shops still stock components for dayton wheels and hubs.

I personally like the look of the original wheels. smile

See, once again, I am of little use (or help)!

not a clue, but a great looking truck. I like the shiney wheels, but the Dayton's are getting rare, I'd leave'm on.

I was just perusing the web and there is a company local that makes covers for Daytons. Saw some cool 2 and 3 tone painted Daytons too, may have to change my mind, plus ti is MUCH cheaper to keep what I got... work

The main reason that people change them out is because most places don't like dealing with split rim wheels when the tires need changed.

Kayse can't keep up at all now. lol

I think Accuride makes a rim that mounts on the dayton spokes and isn't the split rim design. takes modern tubed tires. Just looking at this link 10 stud was an option for 600's and 700's you would most likely need to find a donor truck though.

Wow, lots of options to try to figure out what weight capacities I have in this truck! runaway

Is there a metal plate with the GVW and such ratings rivetted either on the inside of the drivers door or on the jam. Might help with the ratings somewhat.

I would think a good heavy truck repair shop would be able to cross reference the parts needed for the swap and then hit the big wrecking yards for the parts to save $$$ The Budds sure do look nicer on those trucks.

Nice looking truck. If the goal is tubeless tires, I'm pretty sure you can get tubeless rims (not split ring) to go with your current Dayton wheels... as several have mentioned, a heavy truck tire shop or repair shop could help. I have run that style wheel on a working truck with no particular issues.

A previous post talked about Accuride and they are local, and have the correct hoops for tubeless tires on Dayton hubs! There is also another local company that makes simulators for Daytons! Problem solved... up

You can use tubeless rims i wouldn't want to mess with a split rim some tire shops won't mess with them and i don't think they're made anymore . As long as the ears are in good shape on the hubs i would get tubeless ones what size tire are you going to use .

We are still running 2 Dodge trucks. A 66 CT800 and a 75 CNT800. Both have Dayton wheels with no issues. The 75 needed larger front tires "16.00" so 22.5 tubeless wheels were used. Otherwise both trucks have 10.00 x 20's on them. I believe if you wanted Bud type wheels. The drums and spokes are replaced with hubs and drums. This sounds easy but you would have to find the right Diameter drum that would fit your spindle bearing hub and wheel bolt pattern.... I have seen Bud wheels on Dodge trucks like yours, but they were usually lighter models like D500 D600. Do you have any School bus bone yards? They seem to have bud type wheels usually.

I worked at an International dealer for the last couple of years before my new job in September so I have good local contacts. I think I will stay with the Daytons, leave the wheels and tires I have on it for now and buy new tubeless rims and tires as money allows. work Plenty of other things to do first, maybe a hydroboost brake system, and the interior needs completed. realcrazy

My D600 and W500 both have the Budd style wheels.

Nice score! Going to do something with it this decade lol?

I'd be interested to compare stickers on your D700 and my '67 D600.

I probably won't get back out to the shop until Saturday to give the once over. The poor 92 Cummins ramp truck is probably hoping I will cut it lose now, as like you mentioned it has sat for a couple years now and really needs to be on the road... realcrazy

The D700 would enjoy a nice 12v Cummins swap! The Cummins might not enjoy the at best 6.14 gears though.

I say put the running gear from the 92 into the 66, that would be a nice setup
