what fluid does the 98 jeep GC quadratrac 249 case use?

I assume this is the 249 case, it has 240-1 on the id tag so not 100% on it. seems to be HI-N-LO (I have not been able to shift it yet, both engine and trans mounts are shot and has linkage pulled out of bushing/alinement.

I have been reading but cant seem to find much for type of fluid.

also, I see the fill/drain plugs on the back of case. is there any other drain spots that need to be opened?

I watched a video and 1 plug had a spring/plunger piece for a detent maybe? will this plug remove the last of the fluid?

TIA

There is a tag on the back of it, about the size of a silver dollar with the info stamped on it. most new transfercases use atf

Should use special fluid not ATF on a quadratrac i think Mopar calls it 249 fluid.
that said I just check Mopar web site ;
MoparĀ® Dexron II, or ATF Plus are the only lubricants recommended for the NV249 transfer case. Approximate fluid refill capacity is approximately 1.18 liters (2.50 pints)

I don't know??

QC is a nice system IMO. Also touchy about lube. Front and rear diff take Mobile one gear lube + limited slip friction modifier.

Not sure on the transfer case. It might be best to get it at the dealer based on VIN to get the right stuff.

THANKS, this is what I am looking for. I pick3 bottles up today at the dealer.

I found the drain/fill plug on the rear of the case, and also found the tag.

but the # on the tag is 240-1 so I am not sure if that is the 249 full time or if it has been replaced with something. I do see a bar code tag on the xfer and will check at the dealer to see what they can tell me from a vin#.

it does have a SG in the rear so I will get the oil along with the xfer fluid.

might as well do a trans filter/pan gasket while I am under there. seems it uses the ATF+ for fluid.

is there any other bolts/plugs to drain the last bit of fluid?

I know on my 79 RC 203 you removed the lowest bolt on the front output cover on rear of case to get the last 1/2 quart out.

what that tag should show is NV249J

There is no 240 t case

249- 2 speeds, 4 strength rating, 9 - viscous coupling

I had a better look with spy glasses and it indeed has 249J on the tag.
