Ran across this website today. It's expensive, but could this mean that all in one controllers for the NAG will be out soon?

I know PCS makes one for the NAG1. Darius used one in his GTX and I think he had a bear of a time programming it. If you look at the footnotes of the one you linked it says it needs extensive programming so it might have the same issue.

Good find hudson. Here is the other unit, from Sound German Automotive (the one Darius has). http://soundgermanautomotive.com/pcs/

Thanks. I wonder how much cutting it would require to fit a b body?

That was a good find Hudson, hopefully Darius will chime in with his experience. These transmissions are awesome, can handle some massive HP. Even putting one behind a 440 with a 3.23 gear would be sweet

I called compushift today and found out that the NAG1 controller is still in the testing stages and will not be ready for some time. The guy I spoke to said that it is one of the most difficult transmissions to work with as far as aftermarket tuning.

He recommended a 4l60E trans instead.

The NAG1 install required modifying the transmission cross member to create a proper mount. I used an alterktion front suspension so the torsion bar mounts were not going to be an issue . If you are keeping the stock suspension you would want to look at how the NAG transmission mount would affect that need. The floor raised up maybe 3/4" at the hump.
Having been through this I STRONGLY suggest going with Sound German Automotive. Russell Drake is the gentleman who owns that outfit and he has the programming down pat. It might take a few back and forth data saves but he will get it dialed for you and HE IS VERY RESPONSIVE! I would not get into this with anyone who admits they are still dialing it in, we are truly talking rocket science stuff....line pressures vs throttle position vs rpm vs torque converter lockup.......Russell Knows this stuff inside and out. He has returned program updates in as little as a few hours.
It was worth all the hassle and expense (to me anyway) This set up performs better than I had even imagined and I have averaged 20mpg on long hauls averaging at least 10 mph over.
I don't know if Russell is selling this unit direct but I would start with him. I bought my unit through an outfit called PCS and they sent me to Russell when they couldn't figure it out.

Would you mind sharing the costs in getting it dialed in? If not I completely understand, it does seem that you had some messing around (usually $$$) with PCS before you ended up with the outfit that got it dialed in. Now that you've got the path figured out what do you think it could be done for?

My cost was incurred when I had to give up on the stock computer and BUY the one from PCS, plus the cost of re-wiring my car from the stock harness in materials and time. They have some type of arrangement with Russell at Sound German Automotive. Russell is the one who knows how to program it. I think I paid around $2000 for the unit from PCS and Russell never charged me a penny. I'm thinking that computer should be less than that but what do I know.

That's actually not to bad......did you put blue top solenoids in your NAG1? Did you get your ECM reflashed to as if it had a manual trans?

I have done zero to the engine.....yet! Just wanted to get the damn thing running first. It has the tune that came with the ECM I got from Modern Muscle( I think they changed their name recently???) The engine runs great as is. Not sure how much I will end up messing with it, time will tell. I did tell Dave when I bought the ECM that I was going to run a NAG1 though so that is what he set me up for.

I was planning on using Hotwire Auto's harness setup to control my 5.7 Nag-1 conversion. Anybody got any experience with them or their stuff?

I use the Hotwire setup in my Hemi Mirada. It works great, and allows for tuning using a Diablosport or Hypertech tuner, so you have a lot of options.

Better clarify the fact that a Diablo Sport tuner will NOT IN ANY WAY do a single thing as far as the Transmission programming is concerned.

The ECM will also NOT IN ANY WAY do anything for transmission programming other than maybe send info the TCM is looking for already. Two entirely different animals where the NAG1 is concerned.

I would call HotWire and ask them very specifically if they can program a NAG1 swap and how they would do it if you don't bring the rear wheel speed sensors over in the swap!

I guess I should have been more specific as to tuning. I meant you can tune the factory PCM, not the TCM. I do think my Hypertech had the option to raise shift points, but I didn't change anything. I used it to tune the engine a little, and I used a Paramount Performance valve body in the trans, mostly because the stock one had some issues. Mine is a 5.7 Hemi/NAG1 setup, that uses all factory modules reprogrammed by Hotwire to use their tone ring/speed sensor setup instead of rear wheel sensors. It works great.

Joe12459, does your set up still have the adaptive learning or is all that thrown out by HotWireAuto? And I'm pretty sure you can raise shift points with a Diablo, at least to a point you can

Yes, all of the factory features are retained. Hotwire re-programs the FCM to accept the speed signals from their tone ring/sensor setup. Everything else keeps the factory configuration. That's what I meant when I said it can still be tuned.

You're right. I just checked the Diablosport In Tune and it is advertised as having the capability of changing shift points and shift firmness in NAG1 applications.

This is news to me. I looked into Hotwire and was led to believe they did not have the NAG1 stuff figured out, maybe that all happened after my debacle. Awesome news it is though as this drive line with an 83/4 rear is great! I have a 2.76 gear and I get 20 mpg 70mph=2000 +or- rpm. It is pretty quick off the line and I can smoke the tires all I want .It chirps 2nd and 3rd when I am on it hard but not spinning the tires. It would be a beast out the hole with even a 3.55.
More guys will make this swap now the right equipment is available. It is worth it!
