Anyone know if someone makes fenders that are wider than stock for a Challenger? Seems like there is a small but growing market for items like this.

Good question and good idea. The factory rolled lip "Hemi" fenders offer a little more space but not enough (?1/4 or 1/2 inch). A full 1 1/2" extra would be nice... Even a kit with a large flared "patch panel" and modified upper lip support would help in modifying a stock fender.

I believe he's talking like a subtle flared fender. Kind of like how Tom's purple Valiant is. As you can see, it looks like every other Valiant; however, it could probably fit a 295 square setup and as large as a 315 out back with factor location leaf springs.

I really like the idea of a square setup. The rear can handle some good sized meats. Front fenders have already been rolled. A fiberglass fender would be ideal since it would help with the weight at the same time. Keep the body lines as much as reasonable while fitting something like 305-315 tires. That 1 1/2" ahy suggested would be certainly welcome! I have seen that tool before and wondered if it could push the body out besides roll the lip. Of course if it could i'm guessing it would mess the gaps at the body shell and hood??

You need to look up the fender widening that Brad Richmond made.

He bought some repro fenders then sectioned them out to fit 315 or 335's? IMHO very cool looking.

The front fenders are easy to modify: get rid of the upper cross bar if still present... roll/fold/flush the lips (only needed at the top for about 24 inches at most)... begin pulling the fenders out by hand... result is an easy 1-2 inch gain per side. Both fronts can be done in one evening.

The rears can also be modified... but you need to be more willing to do this: first, make a few metal cuts along the top sections of the lips on the inside (you can also cut at the spot welds)... then roll/fold/flush the lips... then tug-pull the fenders out as you need... then reweld the cuts, epoxy the inside areas that have been cut... nice and smooth. You can gain an easy 1-2-3 inches pending how much you pull. Each rear fender can be done in one evening.. two evenings total for the rears.

Best of all... you'll still have the outer lips appearing stock... you could even reattach the factory chrome moldings (and flush them as needed)... if you really wanted to (but.. who needs them?... don't bother with them).

Also, its probably best to have your rims/tires mounted on the car so to make the actual fender mods as you need... in other words, no need to go extreme if you don't need to.

My best friend owns a body shop and he did these mods for me ~30 years ago... they appear stock and unless you have another stock fendered car next to it, the difference is hard to tell. This was for my then 255-50-16 Hoosiers mounted on 16x10 rims (f/r) having 5" backspace (actually pushing out ~1/2 inch towards the fenders). Later, I changed tire sizes to Hoosier 275-45-16... slightly wider, but also slighter lower in overall diameter. The fit is perfect, no scrubbing or rubbing, even under hard g-force when autocrossing... a pinky-finger can barely fit between the tires and fender lips... stiff suspension also is helpful preventing excessive lift/dive/lean in extreme g-force situations.

The only down-side is when you put smaller width rims/tires onto the car, then... the fenders look empty (example: 15x8 rims f/r 255-60 f, 275-60 r BFG T/As used for street/hwy cruising, and also my 16x8 rims f/r with 255-50 BFG G-Force Copmp T/As used for HSAX/HPDE lapping road course events. Eventually, I'll be running the Hoosier A or R 6 or 7 series 275-45-16 race tires again.... maybe, and probably, as well, getting a set of 18x10 or 11" wide f/r rims with at least 275-35-18 200 TW tires.. or maybe a bit wider.

There's really no need for big flares unless you have to have them or want them!

MoPower to ya!

dungeon: Iv'e looked at Brad's buildup several times. Its super but more changes to the lines than i'd like.

Oz: I really like the flairs on your car. Haven't seen any for a chally that i'd go with. Guess i'm too picky.

Thanks Mitch, My fenders are rolled decently but could be a bit more. Didn't realize I could get 1+ inches by pulling them out. Nice, could be all i'll need. Now to get my boat out of the way so I can get to the car.

I didn't see this in Brads fender build, anyone know if the fender gained or lost weight with the beautiful flare job?

I'm sure they added weight to the car over the stock fenders. I wouldn't guess it added a lot? I never did weight them.
