I just acquired a 93 W150 with a plow in great shape considering where I live.

It went through our mandatory mechanical fitness inspection needing nothing more than a minor exhaust repair but the tranfer case shifter felt strange, pulled stiff and you couldn't feel the detents so I had my shop check it out. He said there was some bushing gone that he patched up with some kind of tubing and a clamp ( I haven't been under it to see). It shifts nice from 2H to 4H and back but he said the fix might not allow going to 4L.

So the question is, is there still dealer parts available to rebuild the linkage?

Kevin

On the 2 that I own, and any others I've driven, you couldn't feel the detents either but they drove fine. Just pull straight back until you hit the dogleg for neutral and you know you should be in 4H. Then to the right and all the way back for 4L.

I've used Dodge 4x4s for plowing snow for years, I only remember using 4x4 lo lock 1 time, and I think that was to see what it did!
The last full size truck had a sure grip rear axle, in 4x4, it was a beast! I believe I could have pulled trains around in 4x4 lock!

My 4x4 Dakota has 2wd, 4x4, and 4x4 lock. To me it feels like 4x4 lock in either 4x4 position.

The 4x4 shifters tend to get a little stiff because of lack of use. Usually a good cleaning and fresh grease does wonders for them. It will be interesting to see if there are any rebuild kits available, but I suspect you can get whatever individual parts you might need through www.mcmastercarr.com Gene
