Says there taking orders for the KP block did any else pick up on that fact? I went and looked on koleno's facebook. They aren't making them again (yet) but told some people Koffels has all the remaining stock of those blocks.

I've had two motors that made close (526 C.I.high compression bracket motor 440 block that made 845 HP on race gas and 518 C.I.,10.78 to 1 comp. ratio 400 block 775 HP on pump gas Both motors where dyno tested on a DTS engine dyno in Klamath Falls, OR which is at 4300 Ft elevation, I don't remebmer the uncorrected numbers now but the pump gas motor ran faster,9.993 at 134.+ MPH through the full 3 inch exhaust on Oregon 91 octane pump swill than my 3450 lb Duster was legal for Cab...so your 775 hp ran 9.993 at 134 mph in a 3450 lbs. car? What kind of DA at the track?

That was at Woodburn, OR in the fall, Woodburn is 180 Ft above sea level so the DA was probally under sea level by several hundred feet It had ran a bunnch of 10.00 at other tracks, just quick enough to keep me racing with that car and not get thrown out that day With 775 hp it should have run much faster.

Ok guys I'm just thinking out load here..but wondering what and how to make 850 with a low deck and -1 heads..I know race block thinking aluminum of course..also which size low deck would be the easiest to do it..I kinda like 540 myself but like to here from the more experienced....I have t&d 1.6 rockers -1 heads 2.25 valves just a clean up for now so I know they will be sent out once things are sorted out. .. 540 is enough, 4.5 bore x 4.250 stroke. Good porting, like Indy CNC 345 or similar about 370 cfm will get the job done with 13.0 CR or more. The posts on intake choice are a good point,, a low deck Indy 400_2 is OK for 850, but for 900 a tunnel ram or RB 440_3X is better. I like a 540 at ~7000 rpm or a little higher.

Here’s two pennies or less…..You have -1 heads that you will be using, right?….so on their best days you know the limits. If you were building moderate inches, say 470 or less - I would lean towards the low deck and lighten stuff up for RPM. (eats parts and requires more frequent maintenance) You want 540, correct? Ditch the low block, build a RB in a 4.375 x 4.500 combo and focus on torque, if the car is set up accordingly (converter/gearing) It will last longer, be more reliable and will perform as good or better than the low deck combo…… The 850 HP goal is relevant, its when it makes it and for how long that shows up on the ET slip.

Whenever people say on here that X hp should run Y times at the track I think about all the crappy cars I see at the track. I'd guess that 90% of the cars at the local track don't run anywhere close to what they "should" run. Fuel system issues, exhaust issues, suspension issues, tires wrong, gears wrong, etc. I was at Woodburn last summer and a guy pulled into the lanes with a nice looking early B body car with a cross ram Hemi. I think he was running 13's or 14's with that car. Looked like a 9 second ride. Making power is one thing, getting the car to work is a whole other ballgame.

I'm not a dyno guy but if an engine is dyno'd at 4300 feet isn't this were the correction factor enters the picture.

I need to remember on all my future dyno testing to get both numbers printed out for the same pull, corrected and uncorrected The motor konws how much humidity is in the air and how hot or cold the air is and how much barometric pressure is pushing on top of the carb. I would bet money that the same motor with no changes other than going from 4300 Ft altitude to sea level with the exact same corrected weather would make a lot more HP (25 to 50 +)and torque at sea level

Not many of us are lucky enough to run at sea level. One of these days I will hit an east coast track and get some bragging numbers
