I broke a Spicer u-joint on the last pass of the night about a week ago at the track. The prep was really good and I was trying to leave up against the convertor. Gonna pull the transmission, check the sprag and replace the 8 3/4 with the Dana 60 I mentioned a few months ago. The cone sure-grip lasted all of 2,000 miles and was starting to give up the ghost so it was time.
I never planned on making this much power or I never would have built and 8 3/4. The new Dana will have a spool.
The best thing was this was the first time I had trailered the car instead of driving it so it made for less of a hassle.

Race shop cut off floating ends, installed 8 3/4 ends, narrowed to stock '69 B-body housing width and setup my 3.54 ring and pinion. $400 with tax for that, $295 for axles, $125 for spool, the ends were free as we're the perches. I have $60 in the housing that came with extra 4.10 gears and I'm reusing the old brakes off the 8 3/4 so I'm into this thing dirt cheap!

Made a little more progress. I'm pretty much as far as I can go mocking together before welding spring perches. Need to move axle to the left slightly..

My neighbor helped me set the pinion angle and welded on the spring perches. I painted it last night.

We made new brake lines to fit. Really happy with the way they turned out.

Pulled apart the transmission. The sprag looks fine. All I'm out is time and cost of gaskets and filter for peace of mind!

I replaced a few steels that were blued, put in a bronze thrust washer and cleaned up some stuff. Back together and got the driveshaft back from the shop, so it's ready to go back in! I plan on racing this weekend so the thrash is on!

Raced the HAMB Drags this weekend. I ran 11.42, 11.41, 11.41 and 11.41 all at ~118 mph. The car is deadly consistent and I even tried to remove the air filter to see if it made a difference. The result? 11.41. It ran really good with no issues despite having it scattered all over the shop floor and a new rearend going in it. The air was really humid with a light headwind. It did run a new best 60 ft. of 1.59.

I was browsing a few pics from our local track and came across this pic. It surprised me because I never knew it was pulling the left front wheel! This was taken the night I broke the rear u-joint. I did try one of Streetwize's ported Street Dominator intakes this past weekend. That and no other changes netted me an 11.32 @ 119 mph at 3500 DA! It picked up a tenth and a mph over last weekend just like Bobby said it would!
