Our motor that just let loose was a 500" 440. With this cam .75/.74 286/300 112 - 13.2-1 comp and single 1050 dom. It ran 9.84 car weighed 3450 with me. It shifted 7000 and seemed to be done around 7400. If I could do it again I would have bought a bigger head but.... their mine now. Nick Wilson's thought process was to hang the exhaust valve open a long time compensate for the small exhaust port. As I believe Chuck said. The 540 would probably run ok with the ez's and maybe someday I can upgrade to a bigger head with the same short block. I have a chance to build the 572 cheaper because of available parts but, I'm afraid it'll be a big dummy. lol

If you go after market block, consider the weight if you are looking at an iron block. If you go aluminum, it may be easier move weight forward than moving it back for too much weight up front.
