BINGO!!!!!!!!! and if you don't think it speeds up the program at some of the bigger races you gotta get out more. The faster you go the more enjoyable 1/8 mile racing becomes.

1/4 mile... 1/8 is just 1/2 a race.

Most cases I prefer 1/8, packing chutes between round-robin rounds suck.
Tried some 1000 foot stuff and while it was a good compromise between the two, the facility we were doing this at still put you on the edge of needing to use the chute.

So I guess for me, it depends on where I'm racing.

1/8th is better for T&T because mainly we spend most of the time tuning for launch and 60', you just get a lot more rounds in. Most of the local yahoos that oil down run it through anyway so they wind up messing up the whole big end so delays are really DELAYS. Usually with either a stick or auto set up for racing the 1/4 last 1/8th is all high gear anyway and the ~1.26x MPH and ~1.57 for ET formulas are pretty close anyway.

The downside of 1/8th mile is the tracks and grooves are much more narrow, for that reason I really like running 1/8th on a Sanctioned/SPEC 1/4 mile track.

I like to race. I like them both, but I think the 1/8th mile is easier on parts and I race at least 2 times per week all season, so being easier on Parts is a big thing to me.

iagree I like the 1/4, but 1/8 is a lot of fun too.

1/8th all day long. I love the guys who won't race 1/8th....usually the 12 sec and slower crowd. I get their biotch...but " I won't race unless it's 1/4" ..these aren't the words of a real drag racer. Heck three of use raced shopping carts at a Wal-Mart once when we were traveling.

5.53 @ 125 1/8th on the launch control..more left in her!

iagree

So all you 1/8 mile racers may as well start to petition for 1/2 a football game - gets done sooner and easier on body parts so their career can last twice as long. Same goes for basketball, baseball, tennis, bad mitten, volleyball, bowling etc etc. The whole country is changing so may as well make sure we change everything stirthepot

Kinda surprised by all the " harder on parts racing 1/4"
I have had really 4 major breakages in my life racing.
Broke a cast crank, let go on the first to second shift and grenaded my 416. Way before 1/8 mile even
Broke a torque convertor at the hit, tore off the ring gear.
Stripped axles, again at the hit.
Tranny went away, noticed it when I left the ET shack
I watch( when I am not racing) at US 131 on many Sat night bracket races. These are on the 1/4 mile most always.
After years and years of watching( large sample size) I bet 90% of the failures I see are before the 330 mark.
You see a car pulled over, it's most always before 1/2 track. Driveshafts, axles, tires, these common failures are usually at the hit or just a little ways out. Nitrous explosions, at or before the hit. Leaking trans, leaking water... Often coming out of the water box or while staging.
Cheap track owners due often to financial reasons don't want to pay the insurance, or pave the track to provide safe 1/4 racing and shutdown. Cheaper to race on 1/8.
Guys are often just politically correct and take what theyhave, not knowing there are better out there.
Grudge racing, drag radial stuff..... I can see 1/8 validity there.
Way more time is taken up allowing buy backs and run for the money stuff( to fluff up promoter/ owner pockets, than running 1/8 mile and waiting for guys to coast out off the gas racing 1/8.
At Martin, there are no turnouts till you come around the corner at the very top end. I takes forever for a typical 11 sec car that lets off at the 1/8 to coast out another near half mile and another pair can stage.

I like 1/4 mile stuff, but I've just have street cars with highway gears, so it's not very exciting out of the hole.

RACE cars are in high gear and winding the motor up, within an 1/8 mile. So the last 660 is just turning the motor tighter with your foot on the floor, looking for the stripe. THAT is why it's harder on parts.

Bracket racing especially, is two things.......leaving the line and racing the stripe, in between is a cruise. Which is the reason most big bracket races have gone to 1/8 mile. It speeds the program and cuts down on breakage. Those are not my words, but the track promoters who actually put on the races.

I am from the south, so I grew up with 1/8 racing and am used to it. That said, I have made plenty of 1/4 mile passes in my life and it does nothing for me. Now some of the cars I drive, I would NOT run them 1/4 mile. Our Drag Radial car runs 180mph in the 1/8. That puts it at 220+ in the 1/4mile. Not that the speed scares me, because I have been faster.......but that car was not BUILT to go over 200. That speed would cave the nose in, it doesn't have a wing and a few other things that would not thrill me about running it out the back door.

I have ran both. It don't matter to me as long as I have a track to race at.

A real racer will race on what is available. If you have no choice you race. One track about 60 miles from me is only 600 ft. They have plenty of cars every Sunday.

1.33 60 ft,6.21 at 110.59 in the 1/8, pump gas small block,2950lbs,drag radials,mufflers and driven to track ...

To me its always been the 1/4 mile all my life. If someone ask's how fast a car is or a mag road test a car its always in the 1/4 mile. Whats a new Hellcat run ???? 11.0's not 7.0's. I have raced 1/8 mile and still like the 1/4 much better and I guess since all my life every car I ever talked about in drag racing was always talked about the 1/4 mile time.
I can understand since with power adders and all the tech today that even door cars can get big speed in the 1/4 as I could see making real fast top speed cars run the 1/8 to be safer but as for me I will always prefer the 1/4 as thats what drag racing has always been to me. Ron
