I think some 1/8th mile bracket racing will make you a better 1/4 mile bracket racer. All the decisions happen quicker.

It makes me laugh when conditions get ugly and they cut a event down from 1/4 to 1/8 mile and a bunch of guys get thier underwear all in a knot.

All my cars are set-up to run the 1/4....But most of the racing we do is 1/8th....

What I have learned is, the 1/8th is a lot easier on parts, fuel, and less bad stuff happens in an 1/8th...

I don't mind either one really, but we bracket race, and the 1/8th is a lot easier for us. Our home track runs both depending on your class.

1/4 mile for me as I never have cared for 1/8 mile racing. Ron

I set my car up for 1/4, so when I started racing 1/8, I wasn't using 4th gear much. I guess either would be fine, although I prefer the high speed cruise of the 1/4. Maybe, like the Pro's, 1000ft would be a happy medium. I wish it was at least an option to try for a while.

No choice for me, 1/8 only tracks in my area. I have never made a 1/4 mile pass.

A win light is a win light. Only cause I'm cheap, I've kinda got to like the 1/8th . Less wear and tear, and fuel.

I ran 1/4 mile for years in 9.0 and 7.0 cars. So yes I know what 130 mph feels like. The first half is where all the fun is. The last half your basically along for the ride unless something brakes. My humble opinion. Never ran 1/8 until I moved to the South eight years ago. These small 1/8 mile tracks down here are narrow, leaving no room for error making them a real challenge and fun to drive. The two tracks I run the most on down here, both lanes including the guard rails would fit in a single lane on the big tracks I use to run up North with room to spare. Just try to imagine staging in the left lane and having the guard rail 5 feet from your door. 1/8 mile racing on a narrow track is a blast. Again my humble opinion. Come on down and give it a shot.

I run both, all the bad stuff happens in the first 50 ft or the last 300 in the 1/4 mile usually shruggy I've broken parts at both ends realcrazy shruggy My first half seriuos class car would run 95 MPH in the 1/8 and 117 in the 1/4 mile, it was in high gear before the 1/8 so the last 1/8 mile in the 1/4 was about keeping it straight and make a decision to lift or not in the last 30 ft or not shruggy My wife would drive that car and win with it in the Powder Puff races at the local 1/8 mile track, she would not race it in the 1/4 mile confused She insisted it was to fast in the 1/4 mile confused shruggy My current car runs 115 MPH in the 1/8 and 147 MPH in the 1/4, either distance is drag racing work

I am not going to call you lazy, but I know one of the other reasons is you only have to drive 1/2 as far laugh2

I have seen you win either way bow

in my area,i have a big high end 1/4 mile track 20 miles away, oil downs take a hour to clean up,they run there program till 3am,or 4 am,they allways change things up so you don't know whats going on race to race, have a 1/8 mile track 70 miles away, small, great people and freins, never no oil down, great fun,i much rather go to the 1/8 mile track than the big hi end rich playboy track anyday and less hard on parts

I've done both, but I prefer the 1/4 mile mph. However as mentioned here by others it sucks if somebody oils the track. Just like to race up so I guess either will do!

Won't waste my time going 1/8 mile racing you still have to drive all the way to the end of the track to turn around so how is it any faster I think that's just bs I'll stay home before I'll drive more then 10 mins to race 1/8 mile

I am a test and tuner and drag week guy more than anything, i don't race as much as I would like to. But I am 1/4 miles all the way, I have done a very small amount of 1/8th mile stuff and its OK but if my track options suddenly went 1/8th mile my jeep might get more attention than it does now lol.

I like to hear motors doing work, the pull in high gear is where its at for me.

They separate the men from the boys in the 1/4 mile............or in my case I run the 1/4 because I can't quite finish my sandwich and drink in the 1/8.My junk is heavy and slow.I need the 1/4 to reel in some of the fish that can 60 ft but not pull top end.

So I guess you have never raced on a small 1/8 mile outlaw track with a short shut down.
But I have to agree with you on driving to the end of the track when racing 1/8 at the big tracks. It's a problem when racing at Bristol. The bracket series at Bristol is 1/8.

Events run better on an 1/8th mile track, less oil downs, easier on equipment and far less big end pedaling.

As my car gets faster, I am starting to like 1/8 mile more. I go from 0-130mph in the eighth and only gain another 30mph out the back door. Much more excitement with launching and shifting in the eighth then just holding the steering wheel to the quarter.
