I hope I'm wrong but I'm concerned that the 361 in my '66 Sport Fury may be stuck, even though I oiled it up before mothballing 18 years ago. I've read that a 50/50 mix of acetone and automatic transmission fluid works well, but separates after a while. Is this so? My other choice would be a mixture of Marvel Mystery Oil and kerosene. Are there any other concoctions I can try? Thanks for any ideas.

There are a LOT of guys at yellowbullet.com that think AMSOIL is the greatest thing since the birth control pill.

The Marvel Mystery Oil or Kroil should help.

Now a story (true). I worked at a boat yard once. One of the customers 440 powered boats sank in salt water... something silly like a sea cock opened. The boat was raised after a day or so and a day or so later the 440 was pulled, drained and immediately dropped in the outboard test tank. The test tank had fresh water a bit oily from testing 2 stroke outboards. It sat there for about a month. When the mechanic was ready to work on it, he pulled it out, drained it again, put some oil in the cylinders and got a long breaker bar. It was stuck. The breaker bar got it turning. With electrical parts replaced, it was re-installed and fired up. Ran fine. Far as I know, no problems afterwards.

The best thing you can do to try and free the engine is to not just try to turn it one direction, but to work the crank back and forth. Sometimes it takes a lot of twisting back and forth before much progress is made. And be sure to let it set and soak with your chosen penetrant for several days.

I've tried and had luck with marvel 1/2, atf 1/4 and kerosene 1/4.
Also use the flywheel to turn the motor (as above) both ways a little at a time. Keep working at it. If you end up feeling a catch or jamb when rotating figure a imminent teardown.

I do a three-day treatment using a concoction of diesel, ATF and WD-40.
This mixture has yet to meet an engine it couldn't break free.

I've used turpentine a couple times.

PCL Break Free. Some fire departments use it to free stuck hydrants. I've used it to free linkage and motors that were stuck.

I've used Marvel Mystery Oil and Coke with good results. Aero Kroil would do it, too.

I've heard good things about filling the cylinders with diesel and letting it sit.

I'll try to get to it this weekend and then give it a week or so to soak.

GOOD NEWS: I went outside earlier to tag the plug wires before removing them. Decided to see what happens if I put a socket on the crank pulley bolt. With hardly any effort, the pulley turned! I only moved it a few degrees but at least I know it turns.

Afterwards, I went rummaging in my cabinet and found some very old Marvel Mystery Oil (we're talking 20+ years). Does it go bad? Same question for kerosene(I've got that lying around also).

I'm on a budget so if I don't have to buy anything I already have it's a plus.

At this point, unless it's not a good idea because the stuff is so old, I think I'll put a little of my Marvel in each cylinder as a light lubricant.

Thanks again for your support.

Harold
