I have my trans out to freshen it up and I was curious if everyone just ran the factory specs for the band adjustment or if there is another spec that would work better with an aluminum drum ?

Depends on what lever ratio you run, valve body, front clutch clearance, number of springs in the front clutch, number of springs in the front servo. I find that 1 3/4 turns works good on mine. 15 springs in the clutch, 5 plate clutch at .070", inner and outer in the servo, 4.2 lever. It has over 100 low 9 second passes on it. Had it apart last week the band and drum look like they came out of the box.

Rather than use the "turns out" method, some prefer to use the "feeler gauge" method...set the gap between the lever and the servo plunger at 5/16" or 3/8" using an Allen wrench as the feeler gauge.
