Just curious and thinking ahead. If my engine being 15:1 now starts very hard since the dizzy is locked out. Is there anything I can add to my 7AL-2 for start retard? Or will I have to upgrade my ignition?

MSD makes timing modules that are either selectable or use the MSD style ship depending on what you buy. They also make a three step. They are usually ground-start i.e. you ground a wire to activate the timing retard so it could easily be tied into the "start" circuit.

Put the advance back in the dizzy and only install one spring on the weight (other weight is installed with no spring). Motor will crank with less advance and go to full advance when it fires. Advance comes in so fast it will not vary with rpm.

MSD 8984 Starter Saver w/signal stabilizer

$120

Added it to the 7AL-2 in my car and it works like a charm.

It comes locked out, no springs or weights.

This sounds like exactly what I will need.

Thanks Jim!

You just have the 7AL-2 or you have the box Jim mentioned as well?

Welcome.....

My W8 has 14-1, locked at 31*....with a Braille 21 in the trunk. It turned lazy until I added the 8984 box.
