there's the Hooker super comp (equal length) A body BB fenderwell headers that have been around for decades. 5205-1&7/8 and 5215-2". No exp with em but iirc the issue with em is only if you run too large a tire dia, they can rub. www.bigblockdart.com likely might have more info on them if desired

Schumachers. EASY to put in. Flow decent, sound good.

Guys have reported good luck with Hedman underchassis 78030 on BB later A bodies with low deck blocks and manual steering. They are under $200 too!

I have them in my '63 B body and they hug the block and fit really well!

They don't fit for s_it down I tried, it was a waste of much time and $$. I looked at some of the pictures on the web and Hedman has moved some of the tubes and ruined it for use in an A body. If you are using a manual box Firm Feel has 20:1 and 16:1 gearsets. Steer and Gear has a 16:1 man box, in cast iron. I just put the TTI 1-3/4" full length headers on my car and the fit is so good I kick myself for trying to cheap out with the Hedmans. That being said, there MAY be room for a longer PITMAN arm depending on your setup. I'm using a late spool mount K with the Schumacher mounts. I haven't set my ride height or alignment yet so there may be interference on the Pass side.
If you really want quick steering and have some fabrication skills, Speedway has steering quickeners for circle track that you can make work.
That's more than I want to get into.

My car is a 69 383 barracuda 4spd. I was thinking of TTI shorties or Schumacher headers. Any one running them w/ a 4spd abody

Depending on what engine mounts you use the Hedmans will work....I've built 2 in the past year or so...one with DC spool mount style K frame and one with TransDapt conversion mounts(biscuit style) With the TransDapt mounts I used a thicker biscuit mount from a truck to raise the engine 1/2" higher and slid the engine back as far as it would go and got good clearance all around......still had to do some dimpling for the T-bars and mini starter/(stock starter would have cleared) Every car is different but If you have some fabrication skills and don't mind a few small dents for clearance its a cheap way to go....Send me a PM.....I have pix and I can explain how it all goes together....

You will also have to shorten the steering column's outer sleeve when using the Hedmans but again their a lot cheaper than the $500 & up alternative.

Thanks. A friend of mine had a BB scamp & he had schumachers. The fit very well, but he had an automatic. I like the idea of the shorties. My only concern is the fitment for the 4spd.

OK update- I went with Schumacher tri-y headers. They fit great ! Now my only problem is the left header hits the z bar. I do not want to go with hydraulic. Anyone else have or had the same problem & what did you do to fix it ? THANKS moparts

Are those specific headers advertised to fit your application? If so, before you modify anything, call Schumacher and see what they have to say about your situation.

just thinking out loud: you have a slight bit of leeway on the fore/aft eng/trans location. fab work to relocate the z bar (or revamp the z bar) might be needed. Holler how it turns out

When using my original A body big block z bar & the clutch fork all I did was grind a spot on the header flange & put a small dent in the header. All is well. No more clearance problems.

I too would look real hard at the Z bar and making it work.
