I have done a few of these cars over the years but have a something I have never come across. I have a 66 Hemi Coronet in the shop for under hood work. The original hood has a scoop and the owner bought another hood so he could have both. The original hood is just like the ones on my 67 R/T and 67 Charger and another 66 car nearby. The DODGE letters are spaced about 2" apart or so. The replacement hood he got off a 66 car many years ago has the letters about 1" apart. I have never seen this. Is this a real early hood? Plant variant? Sort of curious. Anyone have an answer?

The letters are different but the mounting pegs are the same.

66 hood didn't have the cut out for the R/T scoop or the indent at the rear for a bigger wiper motor. Easiest said 66&67 cars look the same but have a different firewall, hood, and floor pan.

56 Plaza 63 D100 step side 67 Coronet, 68 Roadrunner, 69 Super Bees, 69 Coronet 500 convertible, 70 Roadrunner Post, 79 D150 360, and a severe case of Mopar a,d,d

Those are some interesting observations. I'll have a '66 and '67 parts car side by side. Perhaps I can get some pictures to illustrate those points.

In the meantime I will look at all of the '66 hoods I have.

Perhaps the hood you have is off of a Charger? I'll check one of the Chargers too in that case.

Are you sure?? Seems to me you have pointed out some of the areas ( firewall, hood, and floor pan) that are the same between 66-67 coronets??

Its the bumpers, lights, grille and tail panels etc. that are different..

Well, I have 4 hoods in the shop. Now checked my 67 R/t and Charger to confirm. That is 6 hoods and only one with narrow spacing. The Hemi car has a SPD of 3/29/66. My R/T 10/22/67 and the 67 Charger is 10/24/67. I'd like to see an early 66 car.

I've noticed the real early 66 cars had the differences. Hood wise, yes the letters where closer together on the early cars. The floor pan is the same except that it lacks the stamping provision for a floor shifter. I have not noticed anything with the firewalls.
