New to this board and hoping there is more info and knowledge here than other forums.

I just picked up a 66 Plymouth Satellite out here in AZ, Apparantly the car has been parked since 1980 in a shed on a chicken farm. Car is all there minus the motor which is why it was parked in the first place. No dents, no rust, all metal trim is in awesome shape. the interior is a little dirty but otherise original and decent, previous owner did cut up the dash to install a stereo and put some holes in the doors for speakers. Checking the VIN# it came with a 361 2 bl, premium interior and A/C.

I have a 440 stroker motor and built 727 trannie that i'll throw in.
I'd really like to build this into a S/S replica car Big jacked up rear end, tall skinny tires up front swap out the hood for a fiberglass RO23 scoop piece. Anyone ever seen the 67 GTX Silver Bullit?? I'm thinking Silver paint on the car and saving the black interior.

Couple of pics. I have the headlight and tailight pieces, they were in the trunk.

There's tons of stuff from Google about it. Here's something from Car Craft -

The lilac paint on your car is very uncommon ...it flip flops around in varying light conditions.Much cooler than silver imo.

Mauve Metallic is a rare color and it looks awesome when painted fresh with todays paint.

Muave is a favored color everywhere since so few remain today. Make her into the bad @$$ original Muave Missile instead of just another Silver Bullit clone. Nice find either way. Nick

The nice thing about the Muave/Lilac is that I could get away with not spraying the trunk, engine comp. jams since those areas are in really great shape. I might try to just run over to Big Lots and pick up some paint rollers and roll the paint on in my driveway, I hear that's the latest craze!

Since I don't have the time or money to restore the car properly right now I may just throw in the 440 and other parts i have laying around and drive/race it. If I can get it running in time I may drive it from Phoenix up to the Mopars at the Strip In Vegas (march 20-22)

Glad some people beat me to it - Mauve adds demand for your car. If you don't like it, sell it and make a Bullet replica on a red car! And if it's a 383 stick car, all the more reason to keep it original!

When you do get around to restoring the entire car...start a thread in the "Member Projects and Survivors Pictures" section. It is a fairly new section and any pictures you post will stay there for the entire build process. Welcome to Moparts!!!

Nice find but just so you know, that's a fiberglass copy of a 1963/1964 Max Wedge style hood scoop, not an RO23 scoop like the 1967 Silver Bullit ran.

Yeah I know thats the Max Wedge scoop, It was on the car when I bought it.(not correct for a 66 and looks ugly too) I'm planning on putting the RO23 scoop on a fiberglass hood

There's a local guy that had a 66 painted that color recently and it is sweet. Another vote for mauve.

On a lighter note I mentioned to two ladies at work today about there mauve outfits matching. They told me it wasn't right that I knew what mauve was but when I explained about it being a Mopar color in 66 they understood!

BTW, I agree with the others above, the Mauve colored cars are quite scarce, not many were built in that color. I'd prmote not changing it, they can look REALLY nice when freshly painted.

If it were mine, I would clean it up as best I can, drop in the 440 and drive it around in as-found-in-barn condition. Original paint, even worn, looks much more interesting to me than restored. But that's just me, I'm weird that way.

I would keep the stock color and put all of the Satellite trim back on. '66's were sweet...

Well I guess I am the odd man out on this one.. I say paint it any color you want and enjoy it.. I much rather see it in silver and on the road being enjoyed then it sitting in a barn at a chicken ranch waiting for that one special guy to come along with money falling out of his rear that wants a show perfect car...

Great find.. And keep us updated on it..

I'm not sure I follow;

- repainting silver means he'd drive it and repainting it mauve would mean it would be show perfect?

I think it would be the opposite; repainting it silver (properly) would take more time and effort and the car would have more of a chance to sit unused than an exterior only repaint in the original color.

He can do whatever he likes; I'd repaint it mauve OR drive as is for now.

OK I got the tranny and the engine in and should have it fired up but Sunday. I have the rear springs to do this week. I may relocate the springs but not sure if I can do it right now.

OK I guees I need a moderator to move this thread for me.

I ended up going with a Braswell Carb. Motor running strong, Trannie shifting smooth but I definetly need to replace the stock shifter since it's a reverse manual valve body in the trans and it too easy to screw up the shifting. ( especially throwing in reverse at stop signs)
Have some Cragar S/S's going on by the end of next week.
Interior cleaned up pretty good but I am going to get the seat covers repaired not fully replaced. I'll post before after pics. and I probably re-die the carpets.

Already made an appt. to get the springs relocated and cut in some mini tubs.

I gotta figure out how to pst videos on here or youtube. This motor is SICK!!

Side shot. I haven't touched any of the cosmetics since I bought it and I'm not sure if I will now. It looks a little rustic/redneck/getto/Joe Dirt all wrapped up. Very unassuming!

I've always been an advocate in that a nice set of wheels and tires can make any car look better, even painted steelies and raised white letters. With a clean up and those wheels and tires the car looks awesome and good enough to drive around and be proud of Nice find and a nice car, enjoy it to the fullest!!

416 stroker from Nick at Compu-flow. 11.14 in full street trim. Seems like a new best every time out.

Current update, Rear Superstock springs relocated, subframe connectors installed. Hurst promatic shifter installed couple little fixes here and there and it's running driving and looking pretty.

I'm definitely leaving the body alone for right now and will drive it as is unrestored. I do wish the previous owner never slapped on the bondo on the lower trim holes. The tires are a MT 30x12.5 rear and the fronts are a silvertown 6.40 on a 4inch rim.

I didn't know a 66 Belvie could be had with the premium "tooled leather" interior. Thought it was reserved for Satellites only in 66, then Sats and GTX's in 67. Very cool find.

The car in the picture is a Satellite with buckets and console. That premium interior with buckets and console never came in a Belvedere.

It would be really nice to see. Good find.

Do you plan on bringing it to the Pavillions at some point in time?

It's your car and your going to do what you want, but I give another vote to keeping the color as is. I like it! Nice starter project BTW.

Car is looking good! Congrats on keeping the original color, it's nice looking, unusual, and rare all at once. Although I'm not a fan of MW scoops on later model cars, your mods so far look very tasteful, good job!

If it were mine I'd keep it as it is with the exception of maybe blacking out the rockers to match the hood after welding shut the trim holes.

Sweet look on the rear wheel/tire combo!

I'm not a fan of the wedge sccop either but it is a metal scoop and it was on there when I bought the car. I did recently pick up a VFN fiberglass lift off hood and scoop but haven't been able to find the time to install yet.

Yep, just took it to the track 2 weeks ago. Keep in mind that I don't have much drag racing under my belt but I managed to make it down the track without hurting myself or anyone else. I made a total of 6 passes just to make sure the car was A-okay. ( it did break a little )

First pass got a decent burn out but since it was the first run I just wanted to take it easy. R/T .156, 1/8th 7.63, 1/4 14.47, 89mph.

2nd run: R/T .152 1/8th 7.45, 1/4 13.53, 87.67mph (Still short shifting into 3rd and cruising to the line)
3rd got a bad burnout tires spinning all through 1st gear: R/T .243, 1/8th 7.78, 1/4 12.28, 108mph
4th run: good burnout R/T .124 1/8th 6.97,1/4 11.96 114 mph (still short shifting into 3rd gear)
5th run: good burnout R/T .198 1/8th 6.73, 1/4 11.61, 107 mph.

The last 2 runs the MSD box seemed to be cutting out over 4k RPM. The battery was draining and I didn't bring enough tools to check it out or fix it. Figured I'd pack it up and crawl home. I drove the car there and my headlights were dimming to almost nothing so I just drove with the parking lights on.

So I have a little bit of work cut out for me. Tech inspector asked me to put the battery in a legal box since it's in the trunk, need metal valve stems on the wheels, and few other misc. things. Overall it was a blast and can't wait to take it back next month.

After you get your electrical system under conrol (I'd start with the ballest resistor, alternator, then the voltage regulator with a charging problem) check your fuel pump and fuel filter, it could have been from lack of spark with a weak battery but that sounds like it could also be starving of fuel at higher rpms under load.

If your charging problem started after the relocation you also could check voltage drop over the alt/bat run. I know some people just use a #10 or #12 wire for that. IMO at least#8 should be run back to the battery from the alt even better #6. Can't have enough grounds either...just thinking out loud, I'm sure you'll nail it down...

rear rims are a 15 x10. backspacing is 5.75. There is not much room on either side of the stock wheel wells but it does NOT rub. The outer lip was tweaked in a little and the inner/trunk area was sledge hammered in But like I said that was they way they did it back in the day.

FYI This car will be driven up to Mopars at the Strip.

I really like this! What did you use for the subframe connectors?

Greg Fernald @ SS and AFX ( www.ssandafx.com ) did the subframe connectors for me since I can't weld to save my life.

Question: What is a good rust preventative for the bare metal behind the door panels, under dash inside trunk area ETC? I recently moved from Phoenix to South Florida and I don't want to see this original bare metal get any surface rust. The car is not in Florida yet and I'd like to prevent this before it gets out here.

Someone suggested Pledge since it is silicon based wax but it'll be a [Edited by Moparts - Family Friendly Site - Keep it clean] to get off should I ever want to paint the car.

Thanks

Hello Kevin,

I came across your awesome machine and am wondering if it's still turning heads out in the Chandler area. I have an uncle who lives out there and there's little doubt that he's seen your nice wheels out on the town.

Keep her looking nice!

Brian

Hi Ed, thanks for the quick follow-up on my inquiry. Yes, she's looking awesome and thankfully in good hands.

Hang in there,

There are lots of choices in that area, most are topicals like Pledge, WD-40, Wax, or my choice, RPM (from ECS) etc. If you paint it down the road these areas could left bare metal just as they are now, or you should be able to prep them properly with a light sand/scuff and a good wax & grease remover, no big deal.

Well the car never made it out to Florida. I moved to a peninsula off the coast of Stuart Florida and we barely made it two years there before moving back to the Phoenix, AZ area. Car is back here enjoying the dry desert air. But sadly I think the time has come to sell it. When I first bought the car I had 3 kids that I was a Foster Parent to but I know have 5 kids, all adopted and part of the family for good and I just don't have the time to drive it. I hope someone can really appreciate this car for what it is.

See if i can figure out how to add a youtube video of it driving.

Don't mind the camera woman holding the video the wrong way.
