Resealing a 727 68 vintage.Front cutch inner seal on trans is much smaller lip than one supplied with kit.Kit is Transtar kit 62 70.Has the drum been replaced with a different one perhaps? I have never ran into this before. The warehouse gave me another kit same seal in this kit as well.Any thoughts?

1970 and earlier kits used a front clutch seal with a larger lip. 1971 and up use a seal with a shorter lip.

How wide is the bushing in the drum?

The '71 and later drum has a wide bushing (3/4") and uses the narrow-lip seal. '70 and earlier drum has a narrow bushing (1/2") and uses the wide-lip seal.

If your drum has the narrow bushing and a narrow-lip seal, somebody installed the wrong seal. The later drum will accept only the narrow seal but the early drum will accept either one. The narrow seal in the early drum will work but it's not ideal.

What's the number of the '62-'70 Transtar kit you have? The K22950E-4 supplement kit hasn't been available around here for a while.
