Has anyone here done a brake job on a 1961 Mopar with front and rear drums? My buddy is working on a '61 New Yorker with the dual wheel cylinders. He cannot get the shoe return springs back in place... I found a link online showing that you need the factory Miller C-3462 tool. They call it a wrench. You cannot use the typical brake spring tool according to the service manual and they're so strong, he can't even get Vice Grips to work.

Any help is appreciated

I did them on my 57 and my kids 62 300.They werent bad to get the springs on.His and mine were 12 inch brakes. The rears are the worst if you dont have the proper tool to remove the drum/hub assembley.IIRC I used my old brake spring plier tools to attach the springs Make sure the adjuster bolts are on the low side of the cams also. Those springs are not that bad as we replaced all of them on our cars.Rocky
