Find the Robert Shaw thermostat, high flow and high quality over a typical Stant Tstat from Pep Boys etc

And while on the Thermostat topic todays fuel runs better at the 185 to 190 temps.

Radiator cap should be running the system over atmospheric pressure which would boil the water/coolant at 212 degrees. Increasing the pressure above atmospheric increases the temperature of the boiling point.

So the temp rating of the thermostat is not really out of line with the topic.

Uncertain of the validity of the theory...It's a fact - not a theory - sogtx and I determined the fact while tuning six paks with a wide band A-f meter.
You guys have poor information retention and document nothing, let alone know how to search for something...But go ahead run that 160/180 thermostat because in 1970 that's what worked and nothing has changed since 1970 in gasoline formulation. There was another post a few wks ago about operating temps and no one gave the right info...good thing this place is free. Ok now back to wild speculation based on old outdated info.

laugh2 Man, this is entertainment at it's finest...Someone asks about a hemi thermostat and the high horses ride in and argue about a six pack engine...Time to close the gate and not let the horses in...But it's all free advice so take it for what it's worth...

Yes it is, but when you see a potential problem with a combination I would appreciate it if someone were to bring it to my attention????
Right, and didn't the question got answered and then some additional info started be posted. Perfect IMO.

Facts are stubborn things.

nothing wrong with a 160º thermostat...I run one on my 440 and it starts opening at 152º and fully open by 168º. (I bench tested with a thermocouple)...Yesterday. Driving middle of the day with 85º outside it was 180-185 in the motor....at night when i was driving home and it was 60º outside...it was 175 in the motor.

FWiW. I run a 10:1 440. Mancini anti-cav 7 blade alum. water pump with matching housing. 7-blade viscous fan with a Hayden clutch. Driving down the road 80mph I am spinning 2200 rpm in overdrive. My radiator? factory 4 core.

I buy 160º Napa Premium over and over

Pyper70, It has to do with getting the engine up to efficient operating temp faster not about the temp it runs after warm up.
