I picked up a 99 Ram 2500 2wd V-10 that more than likely has bad head gaskets (coolant in the oil). 175K miles on the truck.
The price was right and other than the engine issues it's a really clean truck.

Rather than just doing a tear down and head gaskets (and maybe a valve job) I've been thinking about just swapping in a lower mileage engine.
I've found a few with 65 to 100k on them and prices seem reasonable (in comparison to the price of doing the heads).

I know there are issues of swapping in an OBD1 engine and require sensor changes. (94, 95, 96 engines)
My questions are
"Does using other years create issues with fitment of sensors?"
Will the sensors swap right in and fit?

I tried doing an online search and didn't get any clear answers.

Thanks in advance!

I had posted this in the truck section a few days ago but it's gotten hardly any views and no responses so I thought I'd ask here.

You're probably getting low interest due to the V10. They're pretty scarce.

I imagine the situation is the same as the V8 swaps.

I did a couple many years ago. I always just used the long block and used the intake that came with the truck. I know the injector plug ends changed. I think some had egr and some did not if I remember right. Pretty easy engine swap.

Thanks for the reply! up

I kinda figured that the basics (long block) should interchange.

The engine that I'm probably going to buy is a complete 99 with 102k on it so it should be a simple swap.

I've found a few low mileage 94 and 95 engines but online some say that the have the most cracked head issues so I think I'll stay away from them.

I swapped an OBD-2 5.2 magnum where an OBD-1 5.2 was. I had to change sensors on the throttle body, coolant sensor and injectors.
