Hello, I have been using SEM etch primer and some Rustolium etch primer on various parts and I wanted to know if there was a better etching primer out there for engine parts-like Heads and water pumps and intake manifolds..etc.?

I used Eastwoods self etching primer from a spray can before laying on enamel from a gun many years ago and everything except the thermostat housing has held up perfectly. NO ISSUES AT ALL!
The paint I used was Bill Hirsch Engine Enamel.

Looking for a can or gun primer? 7220 MS at Napa is a real good spray bomb etching primer. Spray gun I only use 615 DuPont.

I use PPG DP epoxy primers on engine parts without fail. I like epoxy over etch because etch must have clean almost virgin metal to bite and just does not hold back rust as well.

agreed on the ppg dp epoxy. On aluminum parts i also use Bulldog adhesion promoter as well since paint and primers do not stick well to aluminum parts. the adhesion promoter would be the first thing to spray before primer.
