been gathering truck parts and have come up with a nice stash of parts to build 1 nice 4x4 with 1-ton running gear.

then my buddy ACE comes by and gives me a 82 Harley Davidson XL 1000 Sportster with a wide glide front end. yep! just GAVE it to me.

now that's a buddy that buys a 1200$ Harley and gives it to me so he has someone to ride with. Thanks ACE.

just got a new set of pistons/rings/bearings/valve job and needs finshed up go back together. already has break in run done and was getting worked on to make a bobber.

only thing is I don't know what I want to do now.

I have 2 trucks already and kinda don't want the long build time on a low budget for another truck.

would be one cool truck with heavy duty running gear but then again I never had a Harley either.

I thinking about parting out the 2 trucks and building the Harley.

to me, its the same either way. low budget and long build time searching for Harley parts but the Harley does not need all that much and maybe if I could sell off the truck project as a whole I would have enough to do it.

I feel weird wanting to sell off my mopar truck stuff but having my first Harley sounds cool also.

some pics of my junk

I think the 4x4 used to be a crew cab and now has the reg cab with flat bed it has a 149" wheel base.

not sure what chassis that is.

now the Harley is cool and very interesting to learn about and tinker with. I never had one either.

not sure which tank I like yet.?

I dropped the seat off to have it re-skined with Alligator hide. that job was traded to me for a rear axle install on a 72 d100. SWEET!

I like those old Sportsters, I would keep a Sportster style tank. My son has 4 Dodge trucks too. I figure one radical one and one work truck is enough. They're all cool though it's not easy to decide to get rid of them.

well Scratch if you're looking for opinions....you already have two driveable trucks..so I'd go with the Harley. as far as tanks, I'd go with the bigger one. no fun stopping for gas with that little tank, no matter how cool it looks.

I agree. hard to decide.

I had my fill 30 yrs ago of mud bogging/trail riding here in the swamps down south. then got into street trucks.

I know the pieces I have are hens teeth around here now days and just happen to luck up with all of it at one time.

lot of work converting the 88 swb to 4x4 but a roller cam 318 with hydro clutch on a 435/205 with d60/d70 4.56 gears turning 40s on a 6" lift is a nice 4x4 rig.

I am getting old and tired now days so figure I better start enjoying them a little now.

not sure I want to do the labor to part out both trucks and have thought of call the junk man to come get them. that's 600$-700$ fast cash and would get almost all of it done I think.

I turn 51 this Aug so I need to start enjoying life a little instead. like today after making this post, I went for a 100 mile ride in the 440 truck in a few hrs time. fun fun fun I tell ya.

I'd go with the Harley, keep the blue tank on there, swap out those handle bars for something with a much lower profile.

trust me when I say this Sportster is a better fit for me than the 82 KZ550 I just traded off.

I used to have a Honda GL 1100 Goldwing Interstate bike about 22 years ago.I rode it a lot,but after I hit a deer with it with my buddy on the back of the bike...after we both had 1 can of beer..that took all the fun out of riding...I kept the bike up somehow...neither of us got hurt, but that was enough for me......I traded the bike off for a 4-wheeler which I eventually sold off also. I like going done the road with the radio "Cranked Up"......and not having to worry about those "Pesky Deer" wandering out in front of me.... twocents

i'm up in lake mary, for a while. hit me up, i'll ride over on mine, and check you out. i sold my lowrider, and kept the sporty. the small tank isn't bad, unless you plan on making long distance road trips. i manage 90 miles on a tank, but i have cams, carb, porting and pulley changes. she sucks gas, but is scary fast. smoke

Probably just me, but I would be terrified riding a scoot in Florida, and sharing all the roads with all the blue hairs and the illegals, especially if they drive anything like they do in IL. Give me the BIG Truck. Gene

Keep one truck and the parts you would absolutely need to build it. Sell off the other truck and build the harley. Forget about customizing the harley, just put it together and ride the thing.

KZ550....My Eyes...LOL Just Happy to hear you're having fun smile I've owned a few Harley's my favorite was my 73 Glide Dresser....also had a sweet sportster custom chopper I fell into that I had to scoop and was a favorite of a buddy of mine that used to ride with me...RIP Bobby ;(

The worst was a 75 Superglide (AMC) bought new in 75...huge mistake (thumbs down) and then the first year belt drive - wide glide (sweet bike) and a few others....ever since I broke my back...I can't ride one for more than a few miles...Super Sad Face.

Have a ball with the new adventure....look forward to more stories and pics my friend smile

I like riding my Harley. It'll be paid off this year. I've tried a couple times to sell it but people seem to think $4000 for a bike that books for $6500 with More miles than is a good offer. Having a daughter holds off in the riding but my wife's new job she's off when schools out so I'll be able to ride to work more. I'd definitely go with the bike. Especially since Ace wants a riding partner wink
