I've had this base sitting around for a few years and it has me stumped…....would anyone know if it came on a production car or could it be an old direct connection piece?

Looks as if it's a "cold air" package air cleaner

Thanks DAYCLONA but I'm not so sure about that, the short outer edge doesn't look like it seals against anything and it doesn't appear to be modified.

Another interesting piece is it has a short strap that touches the rear carb float bowl when installed……..possibly a ground strap?

This looks to have once been a 340-6 TA/AAR baseplate that someone trimmed the outer 5 inches or so off and discarded.
All the contours are as correct as the 340-6 base.
Someone just decided to narrow it down.
The ground strap was used on the 340-6 TA base as well as the 440-6 and Hemi shaker bases

I don't have that "strap" on either of my factory 340-6 air cleaners bases.

Hmm...to maybe prevent a static electricity build-up as the base is
isolated from ground normally???

I should have stated "was used on some TA bases".
I believe I have a print somewhere that shows a date the strap was to be deleted on 340-6 only".
