Did 1970 Cuda with the deluxe seat option have a special holder to keep the rear belts in place? Thanks for any info/help

So those attach to the front of the seat bottom.Looks like kind of a crude set up.Maybe it's just the picture smile

Here's a picture of this setup on a '70 Challenger.

They are cast in black plastic for the holders no matter what color the interior is. As the red interior picture shows.

Everything in that red interior picture except the C15 deluxe seat belt holders has been sprayed red. The buttons for the front seat, to push the top of the seat forward should be black. YUK, what a cheap attempt at a restoration.

YUK ?...easy there Dwight, could be a car belonging to a member here.
From what I can see of that one picture it looks like it might be a very nice car.
So in convertible I would assume the rear seat brackets would be the same.
My 70 Cuda convertible did not have the holders even though it was a Deluxe seat belt car...previous owner must have removed them

Interesting option...So a question seatbelt gurus...

Seat belts aren't high on my application/option knowledge list, but I have a question regarding the 70 Cuda deluxe seatbelt option, I know the convertible would have the dash seat belt warning lite/bezel with the deluxe seatbelt option, but would a 70 Cuda hardtop having the above pictured seatbelt option have the warning light as well?...I would tend to think not, but 70 was a screwy year for options/trim being offered then phased out/altered

Thanks
Mike

Yes, it is standard with the C15 option, hardtop or convertible makes no difference. It would even be there on Gran Coupe cars.

A little off topic here......but did 70 B bodies with the C15 option also have the belt holders on the rear seat? What about front belt holders on a 70 B body. I would love to see some photos.

I believe that a B Body back seat has an additional set of belts for someone that may be sitting in the center of the seat(not so on an E Body). I have not seen any B Body cars with the C15 option so I can't comment on the brackets. This option also came on A Bodies.

You bought that car in the mid 70s Terry and I believe it was a one owner car. I highly doubt the original owner would have removed them. There should be signs in the seat covers and frames that would indicate these holders were ever installed.

Those of you that think these cars were made with cookie cutters have no idea about assembly line products and quality control in the assembly plants of car manufactures in the 60s and 70s. These companies were not making art and the cost of shutting down a line because a part was the wrong color, installed cross threaded, did not have the right casting date or number or a sticker was installed a slight angle or a tape line was not straight. Some errors were caught and some were not. The problems with 'Reference Restorations' are they are generally referenced to one example which may or may not have been representative of the model.
Ok, maybe a red button when only black was only available might be inaccurate. How do you know this wasn't a dealer unit, that the dealer principal ordered for his wife,he was shocked to see a black seat button because the one he saw at the dealer introduction had red buttons, had his staff paint them red, the car survived as original other than that change until it was restored in 2012 and the restoration shop kept them red as they were restoring a survivor car????

Get off your high horse and join the real world.
There are anomalies found with any of these cars that defy pigeon-holing by so-called experts. We can all find, and have found evidences of this, hemi brake boosters on 318 cars, cars with natural latches when the manufacturing date could indicate painted, 70 hoods on mid 71 cars, engine casting dates that defy logic. Were you there 44 years ago?

By the appearances of that interior I think most of us could accept that Challenger as it is.

All good logic Rick.
I got thinking after I posted, why would the original owner remove them. And if I recall there are no holes there where they should be. That convertible sat from 1975 when I first saw it, till 1981 when I bought it as second owner...and it did have the Deluxe style belt buckles, with dash light/wiring.
I cant see it ever having been tinkered with.

There are holes pre-punched in the seat frame for them. They have a slight dimple around them, presumably to feel them through the vinyl. They're not real easy to find. smile
If they were removed holes in the vinyl would be obvious (if original material were still there) and the holes would have thread marks.

In reference to the color of the buckle head- many years ago I worked on one of the very early production run of promo red/red 70 Challenger convertibles; it had red C15 buckle heads. Quite possibly an early thing that was changed for regular production.

The other cool thing I found on this car was a small spot welded on sheet metal reinforcement piece under the hood latch tray. It appeared they found a weakness in the area where the secondary latch connects. The normal production latch tray has a revised design with more strength in that area.
I've seen this unique reinforced tray in one other very early car. Interesting stuff!
