......with a std 4.250 bore or close to it and a 4.5" crank?

What was your combo / application and how did you find it in terms of HP, TQ, outcomes etc....

Im curious wink

Sorry, but you will not find many....The 4.5 bore block was out in front long before readily available big stroker cranks were.

Most common is a 4.5 bore with a 4.15 stroke crank....The 4.5 cranks were released years later and the 4.25 were tough to come by unless you spent big money. Besides the pistons are based on the chamber in the head. Any piston manufacturer with a base piston design that works with your head should be able to make what you need.

If you look at the new big bore pistons, they look like Hemi pistons until they get to the outer edge and the dome recedes into a flat top.....The hemi piston is plenty big enough to put the pin up near the ring pack, so I don't see it being an issue. This would allow more of the piston weight to be below the pin and help prevent the piston from scuffing at high rpm....

Actually it was quite common. People would put used blown alcohol cranks in their motors. The 4.5" crank was super common. Hemi-itis still has that combo in his motor.

Yeah you could buy the billet cranks, but the forged ones were not available for a while. Mopar Performance wanted over $1200 for the 4.15 crank when I bought mine from Eagle for $900....That was back in '99...It took a long while to get the big stroker cranks at prices and availability you have today, and if you did, it was balanced more for a wedge and you had to put Mallory metal in them. We built a few of them....Even did one with those Stage V conversion Hemi heads on a wedge block...

I remember Aruzza was building small bore strokers (511 I think) I don't remember his reasoning but it COULD have been before the Siamese blocks were even available.

They seemed to run well - there was a bunch of magazine articles on them

Yeah guys I was just wondering as t what kinda combo it would make for thats all.

With the smaller bore larger stroke, how would "breathing" be affected?

As far as optimum bore v stroke in a Hemi goes, where would this combo sit ?

Out of the box Hemi heads flow 360-370cfm, which is plenty for a 4.25 stroker on a mild motor even bore size limited. Obviously, you can spend a lot more and flow a lot more. But stroke equals torque and is what gets a heavy car moving.

To date, the most popular combo is 4.5 bore with the 4.15 stroke or what they call a 528. They have been known, with good heads and compression to exceed 800hp....But if your goal is killer torque, a bigger stroke is even better. The 4.15 crank is super popular and very reasonably priced these days...

Me, I went 4.75 stroke on a 4.5 bore with the heads right at 457cfm....In a mild, hopefully parts friendly 605 Hemi.....The bigger kits are becoming more affordable, but you want to taylor the whole package so you don't spend money to fix mis-matching parts.

If you have parts already, build what you have, if your buying new, go as big as you can afford...The 572 4.5 x 4.5 is an absolute beast if you want basically the ultimate in Hemi. The 605 will be more by a bunch due to some other choices you need to think about.

Little if any. Your valves are opening toward the center of the bore, anything over .100" lift is unshrouded regardless of how small the bore is. Like was said above, if you already have it, run it. Bore is not anywhere as big an issue with a Hemi as it is on a wedge head.

That sounds good for my 4.31 bore 4.5 stroke with stock 68 heads.
