So they are the same capacity as the 70-71 hemi pans which also hold 6 quarts...

IM asking because I have an original pan for my 69 HEMI charger....

and I was looking at the HEMI pan repros and it says 70 and 71 repro pans hold 6 quarts. I assume that is 6 + 1 filter= 7

So I was wondering if the 69 pan was the same capacity even though they are a different stamping.

Kinda concerned if the original 69 pan I have will hold too little oil for a high volume oil pump and open clearances on the bearings.....

but I just asked a FAST racer and he told me he uses a stock pan on a WILD stock looking HEMI that gets wound up to 8500 rpm without any problems....so I guess IM safe....

I believe it's 6 quarts total including the filter. It won't hurt to run an extra quart since it has a windage tray. The fast guys also restrict the oil to the heads so that it's not all pumped up to the valve covers.

1) Does he run a HV pump?
2) I'll bet every bit of the inside of his block is polished to a mirror shine to get the oil back to the pan. Is yours?
3) I ran a 383 out of oil on the top end and put a rod through the block. I was running a '69 Hemi pan and HV pump!

I'd suggest trying the standard pump first and switch to the HV if you have pressure issues.

I would not run a "standard" pump on a Hemi. A Hemi pump is a HV pump. I have used Melling HV pumps on all my motors since 1972 and never had such a problem. I would restrict the oil passages with Allen set screws drilled to .060 and screwed in to the appropriate oil passages feeding the rockers but it's not absolutely necessary unless you are going to run it a lot at max rpms. Run the 6 quart pan with an extra quart and it will be fine. We ran the dog doo out of them on the street back in the day with no problems. Of course, if you are going to abuse it and miss gears at high rpms, anything can happen...even if you have an 8 quart pan. I doubt if you will but if you are going to seriously race a Hemi, you may want to consider a racing oil system.

Agree around 6 quarts or maybe 6.5 total. Oil level seems high when running 7 quarts total even though the pans are sometimes advertised as 6 quarts in the pan plus filter.

Stock oil capacity for the 1966 to 1969 Street Hemi pans is 5 quarts in the oil pan and one for the regular size oil filter per the FSM. 1970/1971 street hemi/ 440 6 pak is 6 quarts in the pan and one for the oil filter.

'69 FSM says 6 US quarts in the Hemi pan (5 Imperial quarts).

Is that a Dodge or Plymouth FSM?

Basically a deep oil pan is for power by reducing windage. A deep pan holding 6 quarts vs a shallow pan holding 6 quarts. The deep pan will keep the oil away from the crankshaft which equals more power.
