Is there any flow or noticeable power benefit to completely removing the pushrod pinch in an Edelbrock small block head, like the way this one has been hogged out?

It looks cool, but I don't know how much material there is left behind the cut...it's probably getting pretty thin there? Maybe they're welded...don't know yet.
I have not seen these heads first hand yet, only in pictures so info is pretty limited.

I'd think it would be a good mod to do, but sometimes what looks right doesn't really work right....

I looked at the pics on Ryan's page and this one looks more agressively opened up though not as pretty as his, so I don't know what to think.

Thoughts?

Thx

That's Edelbrocks factory machining... They do a CNC "port match" It goes into the port at an angle around 1" deep. It looks more aggressive on some castings due to core shift.

You can usually open the pushrod pinch up to around 1.00" depending on casting core shift, after that you'll be into the pushrod hole. Very popular to Sleeve Edelbrock P rod holes with brass tubes....

I usually take them to around .980" unless going for max effort. & yes there is flow & power sitting there... also CSA

Thanks Ryan, I had no idea they were supposed to be that way.
I'm used to looking at stock iron stuff with the pushrod pinch sticking way out into the port.

The picture almost looks like they go straight in, which weirded me out.

I'm going to tell the guy to go ahead and get them....they're second hand but supposedly never run, for a good deal.

Thanks again
