Wondering if anyone has some insight on the best way to paint the grille and headlight bezels

Black first, then silver? Silver first? Either way it looks like there is a boat load of masking to make it look factory. I'm not trying for a 100 point show car, just want to freshen up the front end after doing some repairs to broken mounting points. Least amount of effort is the goal here...

I have a 71 Demon and I shot the black first, masked it off, then shot the silver. You're correct that there is a lot of masking, but the end result is worth the effort.

That's what I was figuring, it looked like the black went on first. Sounds like I'll get to spend some quality time with fine line tape and an x-acto knife.

Sliver down..... LOTS of masking/trimming.....black down.

Make sure the silver is good and dry before masking and make sure that the grille is really really CLEAN before paint goes on.

I got mine from a parts car and someone was nice enough to put down 3-4 coats of what appeared to be brushed on house paint. I had a total of about 25hrs. into making it look good.

end result.... looked brand new by the time I was done. Glad I paid nothing for the grille.

Looks good!

Tons of masking is in order. $30 worth of fine line tape should be a good start...

Just remember, when it comes to painting a grille, quality doesn't come easy

The grille came separate, but with the car when I purchased it. The center section is in good shape minus all the broken mounts which I've now fixed. I've also acquired 2 decent bezels. At this point it's painting now. Anything is better than the 69 Nova grille that was bastardized into place. All the repairs I have done should be hidden by the bezels or bumpers/valence. I'm not concerned if someone were to see those looking up from the ground, and subsequently I am not putting any effort into hiding those repairs. Currently it is destined to be a race car anyway.
