Not really. Just like religion and politics, discussions of what "is" or "isn't" a "street car" are just subjective black holes.

Not to be rude, but this has been beat to death for years....And I think drag week has defined it best as the ultimate "street car" challenge.....You want bragging rights....That is where the metal meets the road.
I only hope some day to be able to participate....I watch it every year, and it is amazing the behind the scenes and all the stories that happen and unfold....

CANT HAVE slicks wheelie bars parachute
You would be in violation of NHRA rules on all the faster cars without the chute...
I think DW did a pretty damn good job of defining what a street car is... so I tend to base it on what they came up with... the one thing that some guys didnt know was the VIN ID number... it HAS to be there.. I know I kept my dash in the car just for that reason but I also tried to keep it looking stock on the interior

What is wrong with wheelie bars and a 'chute? Tag, insurance, mufflers, glass windows, lights work... street car.
If you can name one production car that came standard (or as an option) with chutes or bars.. I will change my opinion..
Certain AMX's could have a roll bar dealer installed. Several Jeeps as well.

IMO, a street car is a car that is legal to drive on the street in what ever state it lives in. That means passing inspection of applicable, plates, vin, dot tires, seat belts, head lights, turn signal, wipers etc. it must also be able to cruise around in traffic with out over heating. Other than being legal and able to function like a regular car, I say it's what ever the owner wants to do and is willing to put up with.

Uhmmmmmm...............why bumpers? Some old cars the heater defroster was an option. Some old cars didn't have the VIN on the dash, it was under the hood. Carry on!!! Mark

MUST HAVE license (check) insurance (check) DOT tires (check) pump gas (check) lights (check) horns (check) turn signal (check) brake light (check) VIN number (check) mufflers (don't need mufflers for inspection) rear view/side mirror (check) bumpers (check)
CANT HAVE slicks (check) wheelie bars (why?) parachute (why?)
I'm old school.. when I think of a street race, I think of hopping in my car (daily driver) and hitting the old airport road on Friday or Saturday night and you never ever saw wheelie bars or parachutes on any of the cars..
In fact the most prep I can remember was opening the caps on the exhaust system.. ala American Graffiti..
IMO (humble opinion) my list classifies a "Street Car".. to add wheelie bars or parachutes would be a racing type car that is driven on the street..

You would never drive a high HP car in the rain so why the wipers? Pump gas, why does anyone care what kind of gas you are using in your ride? Pump E85? Pump 110 like they have at a nearby station?
I think your questions actually address the core of this debate; and can be answered as follows:
-If you cant drive your car in the rain, Or WOULDN'T because it's just too high strung for those conditions, then its not a street car. -If you cant drive a few hundred miles in any direction and be assured you're going to find fuel to fill up on at any pump? Then its not a street car. On the west side of the country E-85 is pretty scarce. So, my opinion is that if your car is an E-85 only deal, then its not a street car. If it's flex fuel, and can run on either without swapping to a different carb, then okay.
It's not a matter of who cares what you run in the tank or whether you have wipers, its a matter of can you pull your car out of the garage and put it through normal street duty routines safely and legally.

15 votes in on the 'chute & bars poll, and its too close to close at this time. We'll try to get 20 votes and live with that result.

You'll have to explain, I read that three times and still can't understand how a Democrate thinks.
