I checked the tech archive and I couldn't find any information on the direction of coolant flow on a Big Block Mopar. I want to know exactly the inlet
(incoming) coolant direction into the water pump and the outgoing direction.there are two holes for coolant on each side of the water pump housing and one side has to be incoming and the other outgoing but I don't know which.
I have a passenger side lower radiator hose connection (73-up style) in case it matters.

Coolant gets sucked in from the bottom and pushed out through the top. Pump turns clockwise same as the crank.

Sucked in from the lower radiator hose and out the top radiator hose?
or
Do you you mean the bottom holes on the water pump housing the water gets sucked in from block and out the upper two water pump housing holes?

pump draws coolant in from the lower hose and pump it into the lower (bottom) block holes on each side. heated coolant comes out of the upper (2) block holes & each passage turns in/joins at the center stat housing/out to top hose

In on the lower radiator hose, out to the lower holes in the block, then through the block with the majority of flow going to the back of the block and up into the rear of the cylinder head. Then flows forward to front of cylinder head bact to the top holes in the block and then to the thermostat, then through the upper radiator hose back to the radiator.

Reverse flow pumps flow into the heads and it comes out the block. Theory behind it is the heads need cooling more than the block. I just don't know how they push and pull from the radiator. Tim

The antiquated stock "Mopar" cooling system (based on Ford's model T) leaves a lot to be desired, a serpentine belt drive that "reverses" the pump, thus the coolant flow as described above is THE preferred cooling for the standard American V8, Sorry Guys but GM knew and implemented this decades ago, everyone else just followed along years later

If anyone is contemplating a reverse flow belt drive on an antiquated cooling system, BB or SB, just make sure the water pump impeller is a straight vane design, a crossflow radiator makes a world of difference, and depending on the application, make sure the thermostat is in the correct flow position

Actually GM went back to conventional cooling on the LS V8's , Pontiac stopped using it in the mid 60's And the new LT series is not reverse flow cooled either. Reverse flow cooling is not always the answer.

For a good read on the subject (of cooling) you might go to www.moparchat.com then scroll down & click on "circle track chat" & read Sanborns cooling mods that are in a sticky at the top of the page (it'll take you an hour to absorb the jist of it). He's one of the countries' foremost SB cooling mod experts & alot can be adapted to a BB (BB just has some different routing in the front mainly). If you need tips on drilling Felpro blue head gaskets WO tearing em up just holler, I'll save you some grief (& time/cash)
