This is kind of a dumb question but gonna ask it anyway. I have a moroso drag race rear sump oil p/n 20732, according to moroso it is a 7qt. oil pan. Now this would mena that I could put 7 qts. in my oil pan, and this is where the full mark should be on the dip stick correct? I am using my stock oil dipstick for my 2000 dodge dakota, with 7qts. in the pan it is reading WAY! over filled. I'm thinking I should fill the pan with 6qts. and make a new mark on my dipstick for my oil level. I read in an older thread that Brian Hafliger said to run this pan about 1-1.5qts low for best performance.

Best thing would be to call Moroso and ask if it's 7 quarts in the pan only or if it's 7 quarts w/ the filter. Sometimes the pan manufacturers aren't very clear on that.

I got a 12 qt on mine with dual swivel lines and relocated filter so it has lots of lines. no dip stick tho. I run a total of 12. leaves about 10.5 in pan when said and done

You probally need to recalibrate your dipstick if you think it is off I've had to do that more than once when changing oil pans Make sure that oil pan is suppose to hold 7 quarts in it first and then fill it up and check the dipstick

I will do this, it says in the catalog it is a 7qt. capacity oil pan but doesn't say if with or without oil filter added into capacity figure??

That why I fgured I would fill it to 6qts. and remark my dipstick.

I built the pan for my 416.. its a 10 qt pan and I
use the short oil filter... I run it 1 qt low in the
pan to keep the oil away from the crank

It all depends on pan design, oil drain back, and amount of oil pulled through the motor. I've run my 12 qt pan a low as 4 qts with no ill effects. Run it a little lower at a time. My big block with a Charlies pan runs the same from 4qts to 8 qts. My small block with a 20732 Moroso pan runs quicker the lower the level. It also starts to lose oil pressure at the end of the track. So far it hasn't hurt it.
