Yes the number behind the distributor hole is the VIN sequential number. It's a 68 model year 340

DW340 ....

D=1968 Model Year
W=Windsor engine plant
340=cubic inches
2334 is Monday, December 18, 1967
0076 is the build sequence

my 68 Barracuda 340 S has a SPD of B14 and sequence number of 203175.

So did they make roughly 36,000 barracudas (if SPD's are close to be right) between Nov 14 and Dec 22? Or is that an incorrect way to interpret that.

P8B203175 SPD-B14 (Tuesday, November 14, 1967)
P8B239741 SPD-C22 (Friday, December 22, 1967)

36,566+ assigned VINs in ~27 UAW working days (~1,400 cars per day) out of two shifts on each of two assembly lines at the Hamtramck, Michigan plant.

These VINs would be Barracudas, Chargers, Darts, & Valiants.

"They" assembled 45,412 1968 model year Barracudas between July 31, 1967 & July 12, 1968.

In '68, 340's would have only come from the factory in Formula S Barracudas or Dart GTS. I'm not aware the factory ever slipped a 340 into a Valiant or a Charger that year (& that's not what Dan was saying).
