I think my package is pretty average to good for a bracket medium cost build. Best pass on big heavy 15x33.6 stiff sidewall slicks is 8.80 at 151 mph, 3050 lbs, 1600 DA. My guess is that it is an honest 875 hp if you want to talk numbers. Ported 440-1 heads, 528 cubes, 15/1 compression, mega block, 3x intake, terminator on alky, .775 lift on the intakes, and shifting at 7100 rpm. If I had gone Tunnelram and Hat, I have been told by more than one very respected engine builder it would pick up about 35 hp. That would make it run about .08 quicker. I'm sure if I flogged the daylights out of it I could find a few more hp, so I don't see 900 hp as unattainable. As has been pointed out, we are racing a dinosaur, running a BB. I bought STOCK gen 3 hemi heads that out flow my 440-1 ported heads up to .600 lift, and ported will kick butt and flow 400 + cfm. But again the Mopar camp is behind the eightball, on valvetrain stuff for starters.

I don't know really...I went for max cubes....Drivability, earth shattering torque, and hopefully light weight.
I love the max cubes, my heads flow 386@.700 and I've only got 10.4-1 compression. But talk torque, at 3500rpm (the start of the pull)764ftlbs. It's at 800 before 4100, peaks at 818.4@4818 and doesn't drop below 800 until after 5500rpm. You should eclipse this numbers in spades.Dave

If you're building a n/a race motor.. what horsepower per cubic inch would you be happy with?
Me personally, I think 1.5 per cube is a dissapointment....
Thanks, my hemi is a dissapointment and so was my last big block.
Every engine, my van wont open a 4bbl

I wasn't looking for an argument (just so this doesn't come across as rude) I'll share very little as I only run the car clocks off. It's a 360" R3, W heads, cast intake. Never been on a dyno but according to a time slip and equations it makes 2.X per cube. Next it goes into a heavier stock suspension car and will see some nitrous
Easily believable, even with low compression.........Small cube, good head.

The level of dedication all of you put into building all this power NA is astounding and admirable. While I can appreciate it, I also know that I myself am lazy to a large degree, and NOT that dedicated. I want more power but don't want to work that hard for it. I drive my junk on the street mainly, so torque is king. I know what the last dyno chart showed, but in the chassis is all that matters. 4200# to 133.65 mph in a low-rpm, mild-mannered street 360. I'd be nowhere without my turbo.

Hopefully, Im a loser and calculating something wrong so Jeepmon wont be dissapointed in my engines
I guess the big question here is.. Are you disappointed ?? I'm trying to figure what or where the benchmark should be.. Should 1.2 to 1 be considered disappointing? how about 1.6 to 1?
and if so.. does than mean that 2 to 1 is outstanding?

My stuff only makes about 1.35 per cube, which isn't much. But I knew that going in, and reliability is more important to me that wringing more HP out of it.
I'm a head swap away from being at 1.6 per cube. But it hasn't happened yet.

It seems everytime I sit down with an engine builder, the one stat they keep throwing out is HP vs Inches.
You can see it right there - it's tremendously subjective - by builder. As a customer you need to find a builder that you identify with, so you're on the same page interms of the $$ per HP per cid. Most of my stuff is street first, occasional race second, and in the 1.2-1.3 range. If a bracket race engine was the goal, I would think a similar result, maybe a little more for something that needs oil changes and jetting adjustments over a season or two. A full race effort, top dollar parts, all the goodies, and big inch I'd expect to see higher than 1.7. The heads are still part of the whole equasion. A big part, but not all of it. Wonder how Stock Eliminators make 1.4hp/inch with limited heads, carbs, and cams? Ring seal, camshaft selection, exhaust manifolding, & the knowledge base to know and use the tricks... To reach 1.8-2.0 per inch everything has to be perfect, and stay perfect. and as you get bigger that all costs more.
Well, art is art, isn't it? Still, on the other hand, water is water! And east is east and west is west and if you take cranberries and stew them like applesauce they taste much more like prunes than rhubarb does. Now, uh... Now you tell me what you know.
