I'm getting ready to put in a bigger cam (solid roller), and I thought I'd upgrade my current cam thrust setup. Right now I have a steel timing cover with a thick washer welded onto it so it fills up the space between the timing cover and the water pump housing. On the end of the cam I have a Comp Cams nylon button that I've ground just a bit to achieve cam endplay. I want to do something more substantial and less hokey, so I bought an Indy cast front cover and now need to select a button. I'd like to use something rollerized, just because that looks like a trick setup. I see that some come with shims to get the correct endplay. What do you guys use?

I use the nylon ones. I've had the roller ones let the little bearings into the oil pump,,,NOT good!!

Ouch! I hadn't thought about that.

Don't know WTF they were thinking when they designed that POS ... they don't fit under a stock or aftermarket aluminum water pump!!

Nothing wrong with nylon buttons and nothing wrong with your current setup - especially if you already have the proper clearance.

When I use to run BB I used the roller one. had it in
for years without any issue.... and I know hundreds
of guys using the roller one right now... MANY on
this board use it... will the nylon work.. sure but
over time it wears.. no big deal if you open up the
engine once in a while
