Call Frank, or Roger Gibson, theirs has the screen inside, but nobody has the correct one with the .060 hole in the return nipple. I took a bolt, and cut the head off, and drilled the hole, and just put it inside the rubber hose, so it does the same thing.

what's with the hole being the wrong size? this only allows vapor from the separator to return to the tank, yes?

When the hole is too large it sends the fuel back to the tank.My 440 in my 69 GTX would be fine in first gear and part of 2nd then it would fall on it's face. It would run out of gas on full throttle runs. I soldered mine shut and redrilled it to .060 works perfect now.

What year of car are you putting it on? On a 71 the hole restricts the flow back to the tank, if you don't have it your fuel pressure could be low. The service manual talks about on a 71, maybe the earlier models as well. Also, a lot of the repo's don't have a screen, which Franks does.

At one time there were at least 2 companies making them( not sure if that is still the case )

Anyway the good one had the wording IN and OUT stamped in the can like OE. ( The junk was blank ) There are internal differences but thats the easiest way to tell them apart.

But even the good one the return orfice was a touch to big. In 'most' cases it will be fine, Unless you hammer on the car and stay in high rpms for any length of time.

The ones selling the good ones are
Randy at Dixie Restoration supplies.
Richard at Restoration Parts and materials
Jamie at Megaparts

Or call Dave at Restoration Specialties , his wife owns the company making the good ones.

Anybody else would be suspect of quality ,,,IMO

ok, sounds good.

no problem setting that to the right size. i want to run 3/8" line from the pump, (actually have regulator hanging directly off the pump) up to the tee, (i have a 3/8" in, 5/16" out tee). i was planning on cutting off the 5/16" inlet and outlet on the separator, and then welding 3/8" nipples on in their place.

Lots of bogus ones out there and I got one. Could not get the car started - all the fuel was going straight back to the tank because there was no orifice in the return line
Cut it open and just short stub lines inside and no screen!!
The return line needs a 0.040" to 0.060" orifice.

I know everyone want's 3/8" but 5/16" is plenty after the fuel pump. I just want to go on record and say this.

I bought mine from Mancini and had the same troubles. I was pumping most of the fuel back through the return line. I put a clamp on the rubber fuel hose between the return line and vapor separator which seemed to solve the problem. Of course I am defeating the purpose of the thing in the first place.

I put a pressure gauge on mine and watched it drop about 2-2.5 psi after I had clamped down on the return line then open it back up again. The Carters carbs, I've always heard, are a bit sensitive to pressure. After some research here on some older Moparts threads I found that the trick was to restrict the return line as even the factory .060" was a bit fat. Recommended was closer to .030". I soldered the return line tip closed then drilled it to .032" because that was the closest drill bit I had at the time. My pressure drop is now around .5 PSI. Even with the smaller hole it still passes plenty of gas. I rigged up some clear tubing for several weeks but rarely saw any bubbles.
