I use an autozone starter for a 93 Dakota on my Dart, it's been on for ten years without issue.

I have let my stereo play until it would power down due to low voltage. Let the truck sit for 5 minutes and turn the key and the mini starter would spin the engine and fire. I don't recommend this but that is my experience.
Oh and my brother has one on his 520 BB.
My other brother has one on his 10:1 SB.
My sister has one on bc each of her two trucks.
I have one on all four of my rigs.
I bought a spare thinking one of the eight we have would fail thinking like the old school starters. That has been two years ago still new in box, lucky no they are that good! At least the eight we have are.

I run a bunch of them. Great up grade. I get them from NAPA for a 95 Dakota V-8. Remove the terminal extension. They also sound so much better than the old whinnyass starters.

One of THE BEST upgrades for a BB!

Kicks my 440 over easier than the old starter and is a lot lighter and smaller.

NO downside that I can see.

I always did like the wail of the old starters. But that wondering, hoping and praying it would start, don't miss that part!

I just installed mine in my resto. I haven't fired the engine yet, but man, putting that baby in there WITH TTI headers was CAKE! Had to saw the lug down a tad for clearance which folks here helped me with, but beyond that, easy-cheesy. Got mine out of a late 90's Durango for $15 bucks at the you-pull yard.

I’m listening.

For me it wouldn't be the same without the old gear reduction starter.

Based on moparmarks' recommendation of the 95 Dakota starter, I just picked up and installed an Ultima starter from O'Reilly's and it did fit great once I removed the extension piece.

The cool thing is there is a plastic cover that will snap right over your wires and provide some shielding from the block. On my 440, there is about 1/2"-3/4" between the starter terminals and block so I felt a little better using the plastic/rubber cover.

I hope to get everything wrapped up tomorrow and see how she spins.

My engine builder told for my stroked 400, to use a '99 to 2003 Ram starter. Haven't gotten one yet but supposedly little smaller than the original with the torque to spin it

New Mini-starter works great but I am not 100% sure I like the sound. I think I like that slow deeper not-sure-if-its-gonna-crank sound.

Got one years and years ago, for the Duster360, spins it so quick, and starts up like you would think engine has fuel injection. Got it from wrecking yard for peanuts. Same for unit on 70 Sport Satellite !! Go for and don't look back.

Cheers,

Mark
