I've decided to get rid of the old school Holley pumps and upgrade to a modern in-tank system for my '65 Coronet. Just wondering if anyone else has done this recently? I think I can find a place to cut a hole in the tank and hooking up the wiring and plumbing shouldn't be a problem. My engine has a carb and makes about 600 hp so I should be fine with the smaller 200 series system.

I put one in an e-body tank. Did like they did in this article.
I bought the phantom 340 on sale at Jeg's a while back for the same price as a 200.

Not sure what the brand was but I am in the process of doing one in a 67 GTX right now. I mounted the pump but due to it sticking up I am using a foam bumper on top of the tank for clearance, I'm using the 1/2 inch foam matt for Tractor Supply and will probably double it. Using Summit screw type fittings. I swapped the regualtor toa return style and still have to finish the plumbing at the carbs and run the return line. I think all the final fittings came in Friday so I should be able to finish it Monday.

I will try to get a picture Monday how I ran the lines and wires out but essentially I brought them out the center right above the original sending unit. The tank will be about an inch lower but it should not be noticeable at all from behind.

Yes many times now....Both my Cuda and my D100 I had tanks built and put A1000 pumps in them...Nice and quiet...Never did it with a stock tank though, but they make an A1000 that goes in thru the top if the tank is deep enough.

That's from Tanks Inc. I bought that as well as their recess so the tank would sit flush against the trunk floor. I just saw they are going to be releasing tanks with recesses and baffles built in for A/E-bodies.

Andy. I have installed one a few years back within a custom aluminum stock looking tank in the stock mounting position. It works flawless and rather quiet. 1/2 aluminum line, 1000 Aero pump with correct filters both at the pump and inline just before the firewalls bottom where it turns upwards and towards the engine bay.

I think that recess from Tanks is the ticket to solving the clearance issue. Tanks also sell a good selection of pumps - reasonably priced.

That tank in my '65 is right up against the floor for the entire length. I think I'd rather modify the truck floor than the tank for clearance. It looks like I can just put a pocket in the side of the trunk tire well to give me clearance for the fuel pump.

Aeromotive has a bunch of EFI ready tanks for sale on their site but it doesn't look like they have any classic Mopar ones yet.

I've done it with the tanks inc style, basically came down to cost... you can use a walbro style pump with them which are easy to get and not too expensive. I didn't use the recess piece they sell, I modify the tank myself. The hole in the floor above the pump would be the way to go... didn't do it on the one I did because I didn't want to cut a nice original wagon floor.

The recess was definetely the way to go for me. I looked at the Aeromotive setup, but because 66-7 B-bodies have such limited space to mount things, it was cut open the trunk floor or run a recess. Since I don't have the tools to make a recess for the Aeromotive setup, modifying the pre-made one was next best option. And since it came with the same fuel pump that FAST includes with their setup, it was a no brainer for me.

Did you use this style of pump ?? What do you do for a gauge sender ??

Yup, I used that setup. I got the PA-4 pump with the kit.

I had to shorten it a bit to fit, and turned it so the tray was parallel to the front of the tank. (Otherwise the fuel would empty out the hole when accelerating)

The stock sending unit fit fine, so saw no reason to change it. I clipped the supply line for it inside the tank. If need an extra vent, I was going to use that for it.

The Tank Inc. pump shown is the one I used and I too used the factory sending unit for the gauge and just capped the factory fuel line. I believe spacing it down is gonna do the trick for me since I don't wish to damage a nice factory trunk floor either. I will try to remember to get some pictures of the tank installed tomorrow and pictures form the rear to show the road view.

I'm going to go with the Aeromotive phantom setup (already have it) - and either space down the tank slightly or make the access hole in the trunk.

It's nice that someone like Tanks, Inc is coming out with something, but I don't get why you'd want one of those fuel cell style senders (has anyone ever had one read accurately??) and if their basket baffle really works during any sustained g-loading. It looks somewhat inadequate for that. The Aeromotive one is such that the foam and rubber cupped bucket is pretty tight around the pickup strainer - once the gas is in there it won't just slosh out.

I just started my install tonight. 68 Charger, stock tank, I had planned to weld in a drop area for the pump hat, as it's obvious it's going to hit the floor...

But before I did that, I got out the hammer and beat down a corner into a flat area! This gave me about 1.5 inches of room to work with. I am going to try it this way, if it doesn't work well, I will cut it out and weld in a nice pan for the pump hat.

Here is a picture with the large hole template setting in my ghetto pan.

Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best. I like this.

That looks really good for hammer work. I think that might work just fine.

That does look good. What is the total measured height now that you lowered it?

I did exactly that in my 69 GTX. I used an Aeromotive Stealth 340 pump mounted in the tank. used -6 feed and -8 return line with AN fittings throughout. I used Aeromotive regulator mounted in the engine bay. I'm running a 496 with 550 HP and 670Lb of torque. Absolutely no problems and I would do it again in a heart beat
