No stamped numbers in the metal, just an ink stamped number after the black paint.

paint stamped numbers on assembly line parts? or just over-the-counter parts?

Over the counter for sure, assembly line, not so sure.

That's a 1970 base.
Sometime in 71 they changed to the smaller head, longer stud with no letters for assembly line.
Same part number for both baseplates.
Over the counter bases had the later stud.

Terry - Here's an NOS base that I bought years ago. I would assume an over-the-counter part (based on the lack of the L-shaped brackets).

Close-up of the bridge. I seem to remember there are some variations with the bridge, but I can't recall if that was for original parts, or original vs. repro, or maybe that was with the 4-bbl bases...

You are correct Bruce.
I should have stated the majority of the over counter bases were of the later design and lack the feet brackets.
I have a production print somewhere that shows the foot bracket deletion date and a separate part number created for the bracket.
I believe the bridge remained the same, but the very last produced 6 pack shaker bases had a minor trim at the front lip as the dies had become quite troublesome.
I'll see if can find a picture
