Do you guys put a slight skim coat of sealant on your freeze plugs before you install them in the block?

permatex #1, the thick brown goo in the toothpaste like tube, P #1 sets up hard. Have the block hole scraped or wire brushed clean of debris/old sealant & a quick wipe with a rag/brake kleen. light/moderate app of P on the hole and generous amt on the plug (extra ends up on the exterior). Use a large dia of socket that will fit into the plug to drive it in. Most prefer brass plugs & have good luck with them. when plug is flush I wipe a smear of P around the perimeter for a complete circle of the goo (as needed). EDIT use a brass drift on the socket (or a 1/2" drive socket/1/2" extension but it can mar the extension), do what works for you & drive it in with as few strokes as possible & keep everything in line for each hit. get the plug started in square with a medium hit then drive it home (flush) with several good solid whacks. #1 #1 you wanna keep it from tilting

I use the GM brand (brown thick gooey stuf)thread sealer on them, buy it at your local GM dealer for head bolts and other fasteners that go into the cooling system GM got that stuff correct

nothing like JB Weld to ensure zero issues--I use it on all race engines never a drop leaked ever!!! I like old Permatex brown for all else but have had best luck with making sure holes are clean and no gouges from previous plug removal operations--JB and you will never leak a drop no matter what--FWIW I think the brass plug craze is silly--the brass plugs are way softer than the steel and I think the steel plugs fit much tighter and seal better--If you are going to have that car long enough for the steels to rust out then you really plan on a long life!

I've used black RTV. Even if it's not needed to help desk, it acts as a lube when installing the new plugs

Another vote for Permatex #1.

During the early 1970s our school class did a tour of the local Chrysler engine plant in Adelaide South Australia and we watched the 6cyl Hemi's being assembled, when it came putting in the freeze plugs they used no sealant, went in bone dry and yet I never heard of a freeze plug leaking under warranty only many years down the track from normal corrosion. Maybe with the engine block being a new casting the freeze plug holes were nice and clean not like and old well used block.

Some manufacturers will use their own version of sealant when filling the systems for the first time to alleviate minor leaks

Form-A-Gasket for me, too. What could be the advantage of putting them in dry? I can't imagine any down side to having a bit of sealant on them. And can certainly think of several potential problems that might be eliminated with it.

Also, keep an eye on the freeze plugs they give you. More and more of them have a very narrow sealing edge that can be more difficult to get in straight and to seal.

Master, again and still

I use white Teflon thread sealant on them and never had a problem.
